I have an older Remington 870 Wingmaster and Remington 1100 shotgun that came from the factory with a small brass bead. I would like to remove the beads and replace these with high visibility ivory bead like the ones that come on current production guns. Therefore, I have two questions:
1) Are my current beads a screw in or press fit type of bead?
2) What is the correct thread pattern?

Been doing a little note-taking on the 870 lately..

This is from their online help center:

Question:
What is the tap size of the front bead sight on the 870, 1100, and 11-87?

Answer:
The thread size of the ivory bead sight on our blued finish barrels is .146x48. A replacement front bead can be ordered direct from the factory by calling 800-243-9700.

Brownell’s also offers Remington Parts. Their web address is:
www.brownells.com

Some models have a front sight that is pressed in. Contact our Parts Department at 800-243-9700 if you need technical support.

They should be threaded.

You need 6-48. (Just installed a fiber-optic bead on my 870 last week).

I think this is what you need:

I have 6 1100s, the older ones have the pressed in bead.. take it out, drill the hole with a 1/8th inch bit, use a 6X48 tap to thread the hole and put the Ivory 6x48 bead from marbles on it.. I do them all the time..You can get the mid rib bead and all you need in drills and taps from MidwayUSA.com

There are several sizes of threads and beads.. I exclusivly use the 6-48 threaded ones.
