My wife commandeers my new gun

In a related thread I end up trading a AK hunter for a P38.
I showed my wife the result of the trade (which I don't normally do) but she had seen me take the AK out to the truck that morning so she was interested.
I unloaded and locked open the P38 and showed it to her.
She exclaims "wow can this be my gun?"
Out of 13 years of being married she hasn't expressed much interest in guns or shooting, I think she has gone with me once or twice.
So this morning we are sitting on the couch after breakfast and my wife asks "can we go to the range and shoot my new gun?"
I agreed (I'm still kind of confused at this sudden change of attitude)
She was always pro RKBA but never wanted to go whan I invited her to the range.
We go to the local range and I refresh her on the gun safety basics
and the workings of the P38 and she procedes to make some incredible
groups and has a great time. Pretty soon she was loading mags and
doing everything on her own.
As an aside, the P38 functioned flawlessly as was very accurate I was able to get some 2inch one handed groups at 15 yards.
Too bad its not mine anymore.......;)

I'm still in shock but my wheels are turning. I'm thinking of all the gun stuff we can buy together now. Yeehah!

You didn't trade your AK for a P-1. You traded it for a wife who enjoys your hobby. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. My wife has shown enough interest that she has picked out which gun she can shoot well with and keeps it on her side of the bed, which is about as much as I can hope for I think.

The trade was really worth it. You and your spouse now have a common sport you can both enjoy. BTW, see if you can get her to start reloading for you.;)

That's a terrific way to loose a gun. Maybe there is some hope for some of us more unfortunate people.

I have. My wife wife commandeered two of mine. A Kimber Custom Target and a Winchester 94. I let her know that as long as I can lease the 94 from her for two weeks in November I'm happy.:D

I had kind of the same "luck". I had wanted to get a handgun for quite some time, but was sure my wife would never go for it. Finally, about 6 months or so ago, I decided I had enough of being unarmed in today's society, and sort of off-handedly mentioned that I had been thinking about getting one for self-defense. I waited for the response that I knew was coming - "Those things are dangerous!", "Why would we need one of those?", etc.
I pretty much had to pick my jaw up off the floor when she responded with "You know, I was thinking about that too! There are just so many crazies around these days....."
I knew a good thing when I heard it, and had a membership at the local indoor range within a few days. I started trying out all the rental guns they had there, but most of the times I went, she had something or other she had to do. When I finally got her to the range with me, she pretty well kicked my butt with a 4" S&W .38 revolver the first time! We also tried a couple of autos, but she did the best with the revolver.
Needless to say, I had brand new S&W 686+ in my hands within about a month. It now lives in a quick access safe in the nightstand. Gotta go for it before she changes her mind, right?
Next step was CCW. I was sure I had just gotten lucky the first time, and there was no way she would even consider actually carrying! I waited a few months after we got the revolver, and did my "homework" in the meantime - laws, a LOT of reading places like THR, etc. When I finally got up the courage to broach this subject, her response was, "I think that if you get one, I should, too!" What a woman! :D
I have now sent in my application for a FL CCW permit. (for those wondering, OK just changed their laws to accept any other state's CCW, and FL gets me more states than OK does!) I'm sure that as soon as mine comes, we'll be getting hers in the mail!
Let's see....when is that next gun show?

By the way - we just passed our 21st anniversary. Just goes to show that you may not know your spouse as well as you think you do!:p

Hey, maybe going through all the crap at the show was worth it if you can get your wife into firearms. It all worked out!

Ex-wife and I were in custody battle over "her" Belgian Browning BAR and custom IPSC 1911. I got the BAR, lawyer said to let her have the 1911, it would save the remainder of the 60+ guns in the collection from being part and parceled out. :(
Current wife particularly enamored of a Remington 521T, and a Winchester 9422. She's also been eyeing the Colt Competition HBAR with a gleam in her eye...

Congrats on the new 'gun toting wife'! only wish I had the same luck... The Mrs. thinks that all guns are evil and serve no purpose other than to boost mens 'egos'.

What's mine is hers and what's hers is hers.:uhoh:
Let's see it's Sheslingers AR15, NOVA, Walther P99, SP101, M1 Carbine......and woe to me should I say my AR15 I even get the look when I say our AR15.
She has been eyeing up the HK P7 and the Garand lately but they are mine. My only precious, mine I tell you. MINE , MINE, MINE !!!!! Well at least until she declares them hers. :D
At least she lets me clean them and shoot them when I want.

It took you 13 years!!!
Mine started staking out claims the moment she saw the safe door swing open. Out of 15 handguns that I shopped for and purchased, only 2 are even given any consideration as mine. Only because they are single action revolvers and she doesn't like "Cowboy Guns". :fire:
Then I get to sit back and watch the fur fly when my son tries to stake his claims.
I have learned that I am just the procurer and armorer around here.

My wife procured my S&W model 10 "It's perfect for a kitchen gun"
I bought a small collection that included a 1922 Browning .32 ACP "It's so cute, can I keep it?"
I bought (stole) a Browning A-Bolt 22-250 with a Redfield 6-18 scope just before Christmas for $350. The only way I could get it in the house was to say "Merry Christmas, dear". She's sticking to it too. If I want to shoot it, I have to ask permission. :D

Sounds like the trade of a lifetime. :)
Hope I someday come across the gun that lures the young and nubile into my domain. :D
Thats why I keep buying and buying...

She exclaims "wow can this be my gun?"
I wish my wife would say something like that to me.
I'm still sneaking new guns into the house.
She's been shooting a couple of time with me but has never showed any real interest, It think she goes just to appease me

Great to have another shooting buddy:D
Mine doesn't want to shoot, or have any of my guns, but keeps reminding of who told me to build the range.

hide the rest of your guns, my wife went from being a non shooter to "letting me keep" 2 pistols, (she doesn't like either of them, anything she doesn't like is mine, the rest are hers).
she even "decided" my Lee Enfield would make her a nice rifle for Bambicide. (she spent our last anniversary on a hunting trip with friends. without me)
this can get VERY exspensive.

The same thing has happened to me six or seven times. Plus, it doesn't *only apply to firearms. My wife has "suddenly developed" an interest in fine cutlery.
I guess, as with the firearms, it's mostly my fault. I purchased a great Benchmade folder for her and it ignited an interest in knives that borders on....well, I don't KNOW if it has any borders! Five minutes ago, I was looking for "dental floss". A small white box was beside my wife's chair. I figured~ah HA, that must be where her floss is located. When I opened the box, I was shocked to see six of my nice folders that usually are in my "EDC rotation".<sneaky woman!> Yesterday, I noticed an "A.G. Russell box on our kitchen table. It held a nice little titanium knife~~AND I don't THINK IT'S for ME!!! She's got some "favorite firearms" that she keeps in different places, but she pretty much goes to the safe and picks whatever firearm she feels like shooting.
Ah well, it's difficult to be angry with a woman who just brings me home a new Marlin 1894C. 25 years of marriage. What are you gonna do? :)

What's mine is hers and what's hers is hers.
Does your wife know my wife? ;)
As a sideline, I recently introduced my very feminine daughter to the joys of my Browning Hi-Power. She'd never wanted to go to the range before, but now I have another request for a trip to the range, and I think she's eyeing that Hi-Power as "hers".
I think it has something to do with the absence of a "Y" chromosome.
