Its occurred to me that primers and powder might get even more pricey.

I'm wondering if anyone here has an experience with longer term storage of primers and powder.

I was thinking maybe using my wife's vacuum sealer. It works really good on frozen food.

I have some primers that I bought in the 60's that I'm still using. Same for some powder. Both were stored for 5 years in a damp basement. Keep powder out of direct sunlight, in the original containers. Same for the primers, they will last a very long time.

Kept in a cool, dry place they should last indefinately! I keep mine in the original containers in a non-working refridgerator! :)

I have stuff in the basement thats early 70's vintage and it's still good.

I would suggest you use GI steel ammo cans though.
They will be far safer for fire-fighters in the event of a house fire.

I keep my primers in .50 cal GI cans, and my powder in an industrial strength steel stand-up cabinet/desk.
It's heavy enough to help keep fire out, but weak enough to spring the sides & doors out to release pressure and not blow up.

The old refregrator is a good idea too, especially if you can lock the door semi-shut.
(Shut so it can't blow wide open, but not so shut it can't release pressure)

i keep primers in ammo cans i guess you could throw in dessicant bags for extreme long term. my powder is kept in a military field radio box (wood) i keep a 5lb can of dessicant in there and reconstitute it when it turns color.
i have used Herculese 2400 powder that i know is over 10 years old kept under these conditions.

I can get 5000 primers in a .30-cal can, and two pounds of powder in their original cans.

The 8-pounders live in the storage closet with the finished ammo.
