My "new" Model 19-4 with a lanyard loop?

Hey all.
I just purchased a model 19-4 today. It's in real great shape. Here's the thing...It has a lanyard loop at the bottom of the stocks. The loop appears to be pinned to the bottom of the frame. Is this unusual? I've never seen this before but I continue to live in blissful ignorance. You think this was an aftermarket affair?

Saw a post about one very similar in the last couple of days.. Someone said it was a NH or CT or some state police agency trade in..

Yours may be similar.

Anything is possible. S&W has made variations on guns that boggle the mind over the years.
