Changing sights and Brownells has different sights for Pre and Post 74, anybody have their book handy?

What he meant by "if the K is at the front" is if the letter K preceeds the number, instead of follows it.

S&W generally did not end its serial numbers with a letter. They either come as a prefix, or are somewhere in the middle of the number.

It's possible that your gun, if the number follows, was a "floor mistake" and had the K added afterwards.

Any chance of posting a picture of it, John?

Never know, the K may have absolutely nothing to do with the serial number at all.

If that's the case, your gun could be quite a bit older than 1957.

I was in error sorry The K was on the front end of the number and ther is only 3 screws in the side plate. Thanks Guys for the info
