I just bought a .357 mag but it has a 6 inch barrel and I think I would like a 4 inch better. I cannot find anywhere that sells them.

Unfortunately Taurus does not sell their parts to anyone. You'll have to call their customer service dept. and see what they charge for a new bbl. & install. If you decide to do it you'll have to send the gun to their US headquarters in Miami and wait while they do the work.

Not easily. If Tauri are made like most other revolvers, the barrels are likely screwed in very tightly, with "crush-fit" threads. Additional machining is then required to square off and establish the correct barrel/cylinder gap. This is a job for the factory, or a very skilled smith - if he can get a barrel - with factory-level training and tools.

I agree with all above, the factory should do the barrel change...if they will.

For what its worth, seen one Taurus barrel forsale on the GunBroker thing. Think it was off a Tracker model.

I do not know what barrel profile you have, but a good 'smith could probably shorten your barrel quicker, and for less money, than Taurus, if they will even do it.

Shortening the barrel of a Tarus or installing a new barrel will probably be nearly as expensive as getting a new gun. I think the price for shortening a Smith starts at about 180. If it's a blued gun, you will need to reblue it also. And you'll need to have a new front sight installed.

Seems obvious but I'd think it would be better to find a used Taurus like you want and sell the other gun to finance it if needed. Heck, find a Dan Wesson with 4 and 6 in barrels!
