I realized that my campus does not have a SCCC chapter! after this recent article
http://www.kansan.com/stories/2008/feb/19/administrators_focus/
i think we need one, is there any KU students here interested in starting a chapter on our campus? PM me if so. I would not mind taking the lead and talking to media and newspaper, but would like to have at least a few people behind me, Lawrence, kansas is almost enemy territory.

I'm not a student, just a lifelong Lawrence resident :banghead: I feel for ya, and I hope you start a chapter, but in this liberal mecca you better have your asbestos long johns ready. I'm not saying don't fight, just be ready for the fallout:barf:

There are a couple of concealed carry instructors in the phone book, you might give them a call and see if they have any suggestions.

I'm a student there. I'm rocking the SCCC shirt today too if you spot me on campus!

You guys should check out the facebook group to find locals. Facebook makes it (marginally) easier.

We need to get the message out so that more KU students will participate in the group and participate in the April protest.

I am going to apply for the leadership position as soon as i get my CHL permit in april, until then I am thinkin about printing up some flyers to put up around school, maybe chalk the sidewalk, however im not very good with artsy stuff anymore so if anyone wants to help, let me know! im gonna ask the University to approve the flyers soon then print them out, so if anyone wants some flyers to put up in your area of campus, let me know!

Sounds good. Have you already completed the course? Do you know if there are many supporters here at KU?

I have completed the course through these guys
http://www.targetmastershootingacademy.com/
they opperate out of the bullet hole in overland park. great class and instructor. She was a big player in getting CHL in KS. As far as supporters go, we are fighting an uphill battle, ha, i posted threads and comments all over hoping to get soem feedback, so hopefully the flyers with bring more awareness and supporters.

The target master shooting academy offers discounts to NRA members on classes as well. there is a thread in group buy deals here that has a discount on NRA memberships for 25 instead of 35! not a bad deal.

What flyers are you speaking of? Have you been handing them out on campus?

former KU student here... still in lawrence. this is def. "enemy territory." even though we're in KS, douglas county is an island of liberals.

why is there no gun range here? i hate having to drive 30min to the bullet hole.

Amen, however, i love the bullet hole, good guys there, they can seem grumpy at times but they are good guys, not to mention that range is great. I work in OP tho so its no biggie for me to go there before or after work! I would spend way too much money and time if there was a range in lawrence!

I am going to start next week, they are some flyers on the facebook group site that you can DL and print off. I will prolly go to kinkos are somethin, maybe hit up the library and print a sh*t ton of them and post them around campus. I don't want to hand anything out, yet. I have a bad impression of the people who stand on the sidewalks and hand stuff out. Once we get more support we can set up a table in front of wescoe or somethin, but we need to make sure we have more support first.

Guys,

KU is one of the reasons we call Y'all the People's Republik of Douglas County.

An sccc chapter at KU will likely get you suspended, expelled, or banished to that gulag down at Osawatomie.

If you guys want plugged into concealed carry in Ks it's http://www.ksccw.com

I have all you guys beat. I got my permit last year, but I already transferred to Washburn due to the economics of being a single dad. Good luck!

I am a KU Master's student, with concealed carry and love the idea of a chapter. Wish I had the time to help out, but I would attend if you had one. Think it would be great. I hate this towns culture, but best in-state MBA program. Wish there was a shooting range here too, that would be great. Bullet hole is ok, except the prices want to make me throw up, I don't like people that run business like that. But whatever, still the closest place to shoot if you don't have land.

Another KU student here...and yes, I would be willing to offer whatever support I can.

Actually, for all of you talking about the bullet hole and having to drive there, there is a shooting range here in lawrence. PM for the details if you want to know more.

Ehh, I see enough misinformed people that I may as well just put it up here. Here is a link to the most info you will be able to find on it (its kind of a secret that is slowly becoming not so secret--hence a lot more crowding, as there are only 5 firing points!): http://gunclub.hostlss.net/

But basically the details are:
It is really a low-budget operation. The ro's are volunteers, and 'accounting' is left to members.
-Its at the rec center off of 11th and Mass in the basement
-Mandatory safety session/range rules held every Wed at 6:45. You MUST attend this before you can shoot. And don't be late, they WILL send you home (just ask my roommate that showed up too late last week, or the guy pounding on the doors tonight as orientation was in session)
-Cost is $2.00 for non-members or you can sign up for membership (i don't remember the cost) and then it is $.50 per visit
-Currently they are open MTW and F? (not sure about fri) from 7:00-9:00pm
-Have to bring your own eye, ear, and firearm
-5 firing points

I think that is enough info to get you started. But make sure you bring everything you need and are on time. Like I said, it is pretty bare-bones operation, so you will not be able to buy ammo there etc.

If you really know what you are doing out there (on the firing line, I mean) and are going to attend, pm me and let me know. I could use some affordable instruction, lol.

Just be safe and don't worry if it seems like the ro is riding your ass the first day. That is his job, and he NEEDS to be on his toes w/ all the new shooters (myself included--well not that new, just not that good yet, but at least I am always safe), and if you witnessed some of the ppl I saw there during last amateur night as it is affectionately called, you would prob want a vest while shooting. But as long as you remember magazine out, slide locked back, finger out of trigger guard, muzzle pointed at the the ceiling or ground until you rack the gun, you won't hear a peep.

But there is one rule: only shooters we are accepting right now are .40s&w and .45acp shooters that DON'T RELOAD there own ammo. That way I can have your brass and also not have to fight w/ all those pesky .9mm and .22lr shooters for a firing point (plus separating 9mm from .40 sucks, but that is a different subject). But I'm sure I'll see a few of you there. Pm me if you want to know more

There are a lot of morons here. I think we will be fine though. If men can stand outside Wescoe hall and scream that gays are going to hell without any repercussions, I think we will be fine.

LOL. Yeah, I used to give that guy hell. Too bad I'm just never on that part of campus when he is anymore. But u are right eventer, a legitimate group like a sccc chapter would in no way jeopardize a student's standing w/ the school. And if did, the NRA and I don't know how many other orgs would have lawyers and pr ppl on their way to Lawrence the next day, which in all reality, would prob be good for the cause (though not for me, as I plan on graduating this spring and don't want to have to deal w/ it)
