wish I could add something useful here, but the only derringer I'ver ever wanted is a .410/.45 LC one, why? I don't know, but I don't have one so that must say something, I still think it'd be cool though.....

Well, I've seen them in .22 and .32

There's a local shop with a few for $125 each and I'm considering picking them all up.

Bond Arms (http://www.bondarms.com/ifirearms.htm) has them in .22 LR all the way up to 10mm and 44-40.

Here are all the calibers they have:
45 Colt/.410 Shot Shell (rifled)
.357 MAG/.38 Spl
.357 MAX
.45 ACP
.45 Colt, Only
.45 GAP
.44 Special
44-40 Winchester
.40 S&W
10 mm
9 mm Lugar
32 H & R Mag
.22 Long Rifle

The guns for the heavier calibers are so big and heavy I see no reason to carry a 2 shot when you could carry 6+ rounds in a smaller lighter package.

American Derringer (http://www.amderringer.com/) is still in business but I think it takes a long time to get a gun from them.

Cobra (http://66.165.102.6/cobra/products.html) makes very small Derringers and some larger ones too. They are probably the only firearms I would buy from Cobra if I felt the need for a 2 shooter...

I've never really liked them though some members here do. I really want a .410 one though if it was legal in my area. In .22, I'd rather have a NAA mini revolver, similar size, 5 shots.

In the 38spl/9mm size, I'd rather have an airweight .38 revolver. Bigger caliber derringers are actually fairly large and heavy. The loading procedure and 1-2 shots bug me. I had a High Standard .22lr derringer too and it was unreliable unfortunately.

Someone offered me a case of beer to shoot their .45-70 derringer. They'd owned it a year and had never shot it. I've got a .45-70 rifle and can afford my own blinkin' beer!

To my knowledge, it remains unfired.

I've got the Bond Arms in 45ACP.
I don't carry it but if my pockets were deeper I might carry it to Wal Mart once in a while.

A derringer is awkward to use, slow to reload and difficult to shoot accurately.
And of course the worst feature is only two shots.
There are much better defense guns of the same weight and size.

IMO the derringer is fun to shoot and a good one is as accurate as the shooter.
When I got my Bond I loaded a thousand target loads that wouldn't be too hard on the hand with a lot of practice.
I have shot +P 45ACP and it's not a big deal.

The defense accuracy isn't bad.
But it does take a while to get 10 shots in the target.:)

It's only two shots but this view would probably make a BG wet his pants.:)

I have a double action derringer in .38 spl. Seldom carry it as I prefer .357 revolvers. It can hit a pie plate at 10 yds. One barrel hits one edge of the plate and the other hits the other edge. After 6-10 rounds my hand will start to hurt from shooting it. Anything more powerful would start to be unpleasant.

I have a High Standard .22 Mag that I carry, and feel fine with it. It's accurate out to 10-15 yards, and doesn't kick bad at all.

I have an old 38 derringer that is as accurate as I could ask from it ... wouldn't use it go squirrel hunting but as a last line of defense, well ... let's just say I wouldn't want to have one pointed at me ... the recoil is not bad but I only use wad cutters in it ... if I ever needed to defend myself w/ this piece it will not be at a distance .... it fits easily into a cigarette pack and is ugly as sin ...

I also have a 32 that I've never shot ... it's so simple that I have no doubt that if I ever needed to use it, I'm sure it will work ...

I've had a Cobray .45LC/.410 derringer for 20 something years.I have shot it a lot in practice and it is very manageable. It's a great snake gun when fishing.I sometimes carry it when hunting and have killed several rabbits with it as well as a couple of quail.Neat little utilitarian pistol.

I Have A Bond Arms 45 Lc/ 410 Its Fun To Shoot, And I Could Hit A Man At Short Range, Thats What Its Made For, But I Realy Would Rather Have My 1911 If Things Go Bad:)

I have had American Derringers and they are the only other one I would buy. Very well made, probably as well made as the Bond. The Bond is faster to reload and I have it for Cowboy Action Shooting.

I WOULD NEVER CARRY A DERRINGER FOR SELF DEFENSE

EVEN AS A BACKUP

My model 36 S&W is as easy to conceal as Bond and it has 5 shots and is a whole lot easier to put into action SAFELY.

I would carry it while out hunting prarie-dogs loaded with 410 shells for the occasional snake.

A quality derringer falls in the "hoot to shoot" category. If it possesses a longer barrel, then acceptable accuracy is possible for several yards away. Yes, I would like to shoot a Bond derringer in .38 Special "just for the fun of it". No, I would prefer a repeater firearm for self-defense such as a snubbie revolver or compact semi-auto. Think about what I have said. Now, if you can rent a derringer to shoot at a range, then do so and get the "derringer bug" out of your system.

now i have a question, does it fire both rounds at the same time? or is like a single trigger O/U shotgun?

i was looking into a .22mag for a 2nd BUG after my kel-tec p3at and after my s&w .40

does it fire both rounds at the same time?

No, one round at a time.

If both barrels don't shoot to the same point, which is common, then it is important that you know which barrel will fire first, so you can correct your aim for each barrel.

I have an American Derringer in 357 mag and I have carried it as BUG to a SA 45colt when walking the Dogs in the evening.
