I've been considering picking up a stainless S&W model 60 or something of that nature for CCW. If things pan out well, the GF may even take a liking to it.
How much should I be looking to pay for a used one in good, totally functional shape w/o the safety hole?

A good used Model 60 (.38, 2") generally goes for $300 - $375 around here. They are still fairly popular. The blued Model 36 is more common and less expensive. You can find them for $250 and up.

I bought a Model 60-15 .357 Mag 3" Bbl. ramp front,
adjustable rear sight new last October $550 I have
been shooting the SPeer 125 gr. Gold Dot JHP .38
Special +P recoil is manageable for repeat shots. I have
yet to use .357 Magnum loads in it but I like the option.

Goon, try gunbroker.com and put S&W MOdel 60 in the search
box and see what they are being auctioned for.

NOte: the 60 3" Bbl. model comes with S&W rubber grips that
I think are modeled after Uncle MIke's grips - they are one piece
and wrap around the front and back and are just a tad longer
and long enough for my long hands. I don't think they make it
less concealable, but it depends on carry method. I do think a
2 1/4" Bbl. model would be more CCW friendly.

Safariland COMP-I Speedloaders are the way to go
for a reload(s)

Got my Model 60 (.38 SPL 2") for $250 from a cop about to retire. He bought it back in the day, and only shot it once a year for qualification.
If you know any retired cops or veterans in the department, you might be able to find a pretty good snubby.

I recently bought a slightly used S&W 642 through Gunbroker - paid only $320 with shipping. The least I've seen new ones for is $401 including shipping at Bud's on the net. The 642 is a hammerless aluminum-frame 5-shot with stainless finish. They are very popular and very easy to pocket carry.

Thanks.
I'm looking for something that will essentially fill the role of a Kel-Tec only with a little less violence on the recieving end.

At least with a revolver you can put reasonable grips on it and I think I'd prefer a 158 grain bullet to a 90 grain one.
I've owned a couple and really wish I had kept my first M-60 2" .38.
