I'm researched this site for load recommendation for my new Garand NM Ultra. It appears that Garands like 150 gr bullets. Is this correct for all powder and ranges?
What powder do you find works best?
Thank you for your assistance.

IMR-4895 is the classic powder for reloading .30-06 for use in M1s, IIRC.
I shot Service Rifle back in the early 90s with an M1. My handload for it was a Winchester bulk 150 FMJ-BT on top of enough IMR-4064 to get about 2700 FPS muzzle velocity. Except for the boat tail, this duplicated the original .30 M1906 ballistics.
I found this load to be accurate, reliable in my rifle, and had a bit less recoil than full house M2-equivalent loads.

168gr HPBT
start with 45.5gr IMR4895 in a surplus case.
A 150gr Match would be good for the short line, but it'll be blown off the charts at 600.
A FMJ won't hold a candle to a match bullet.

IMR 4895, Hodgdon 4895 or Varget are what I've used. H4895 is very similar to I4895 but is an Extreme powder and isn't affected by temperature changes. I found a good load using Varget with 150 gr M2 bullets. Its either 47 or 48 gr. My book is downstairs and I'm too lazy right now to go down and look. :)
I bought a bunch of M72 173 gr bullets and found that 45.0 grains of IMR 4895 in Lake City cases with either Winchester or CCI primers gives me a very acurate load in my Garand for 100 and 200 yd Garand matches.

Sierra 168 gr HPBT MatchKing
45 gr IMR 4895
Federal Large Rifle Benchrest / Match primer
Shoots like a dream in my '03's, M-1's and M-1A. Gives me just a hair over 2500fps.
See if you can find any Lake City brass - I like that best for consistency.
Also, for hunting, I shoot the 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip with the same powder load and it has virtually identical ballistic coefficient to the MatchKing and shoots to the same point of aim.

Of the many M1s I have shot formally in competition or informally at the range, almost all like the 168 match bullets best.
48 grains of 4064 with a 168 grain Sierra match bullet is the best combination I found. I have fired these by the thousands.
Only some M1s like a 150 grain bullet better. Again 4064 is the best powder I found for accuracy.
4895 works almost as well, but is not quite as accurate.

It's too slow. RL15 should be OK if you don't overdo it. RL12 is good if you can find it. Don't know about 10x because there is so little data for it.
Has anyone tried Ramshot TAC?
