Taurus made me buy a Ruger

Well after 3 months of being on backorder for a Taurus Tracker .22 I finally decided I had enough.
i was at the gunshop and talking to the guy about why it was on backorder for so long and then after handling a Single Six i said "screw it" and changed the order. They two guns cost about the same (Ruger was $10 cheaper) so it was easy to make the switch. Especially since I had already put the money down on the Taurus 3 months ago so there was no "do I really have the cashflow to spend on this right now" anxiety that I get when making bigger purchase. Ordered up a 5.5" blued model. Kind of a shame they don't come with wood grips anymore. They had a used one with wood grips in 6.5" but it didn't have the extra cylinder or a box.
I originally wanted the Tracker to let me practice my DA trigger pulls for cheap (i also have a GP100) so I guess that ability goes out the window but the Single Six is such a cool little gun I ain't too concerned. I'll just have to get reloading equipment to start pumping out cheap .38spl for the GP100.
Also looking like I may end up with a Ruger only lineup as far as revolvers go since I've been wanting a Redhawk for a while now. At that point i'd feel funny not buying a Vaquero eventually for my cowboy gun needs just to keep things consistent.

Single six is a fun gun. If you want a DA, well, that's a good reason to cruise the gun shows in the future, LOL. I have a little Rossi 511 DA I picked up at a gun show after my first one got ripped off. Neat little gun, very accurate, but the DA is pretty rough. I love to plink with it, very accurate.
BTW, I reload .38 special for about the price of mini mags by casting my own. You should reload if you REALLY want DA practice.

yeah i'm already looking into reloading (especially since i'll be getting a .44 next) and doing the research on it....will probably go with a Lee Classic Turret press
As far as the single six goes I know a lot of .22's are finicky with certain brands of ammo. Is there any ammo in particular that works good with the Single Sixes are is that type of thing on a gun by gun basis?

Gun by gun. I had one that loved el cheapo WInchester Wilcats and hated Eley Match. My Mark II of course is exactly opposite.

yeah I've seen them on gunbroker while on my 3 month backorder sojourn but the gunshop is a new one that's opened up like 4 miles from my house. I'm trying to give them business so they stay open. It's very nice to have a shop that close to the house.
Support your local businesses and such. I didn't have the GOTTA HAVE IT NOW feeling towards the Tracker like I did my GP100 (which i bought online back in december) so I thought i'd just wait it out.

Lucky Strike,be glad the Taurus was back-ordered.I have an S&W model 63 J-frame which is a bear to shoot double action.I've read that the model 94 Taurus is even worse. If you want to practice your DA trigger pull to match the GP100 get a used Ruger SP101 in .22LR since they stopped making them a while ago.The Single Six on the other hand is an excellent SA pistol.tom.

I think it's for the best that you ended up with the Ruger. ;)

Yeah, when my Single-Six doesn't get to make the range trip, it sulks and won't speak to me for 3 days... ;) :p

Everyone yaps about Gunbroker and other internet sites, but I don't wanna pay 50 bucks extra to get a gun shipped and I WILL NOT buy ANY revolver sight unseen. I wanna pick it up and check it out before I plunk down my hard earned cash.
Yeah, I don't know why, but the DA on most of the J frame based .22 DAs are pretty tough, even the Smith and Wessons. If you could find an old M17 K22 masterpiece, on the K frame, well, you'd have perfection. But, most of the DA stuff available now is best fired SA anyway from my experience. I know my Rossi certainly is. However, it still makes for decent DA practice. If I can fire THAT thing accurately, my little .38 special Taurus M85 is nothin'! :D

Be thankful that the Taurus backorder forced your hand to a Ruger solution. You get a pain-free lesson that some of us have paid dearly to learn. When it comes to revolvers, stick with S&W, Ruger & Colt (except an occasional Freedom Arms or other high-end offering). I quickly learned the difference in great price & good value!

I know a lot of .22's are finicky with certain brands of ammo.
With auto-loaders, many .22's are indeed ammo sensitive. With a single action revolver? I don't expect you'll have much of a problem :)
After all, the cartridge doesn't have to do anything but go bang hard enough to get the bullet out the end of the tube!

I picked my Stainless Single six up at a gun show for 225. I got it cheap because it had cowboy action springs in it and wouldn't light off half the time. I sent it into ruger they fixed it now I have a reliable good little gun. The trigger isn't nearly as nice though.
