I'm always interested in getting more bang for the buck and since my gun budget fluctuates, a good deal is always welcome.

High road members: What in your opinion is the best firearms deal going?

Since I like all kinds of guns, I don't care if its new, used, milsurp, commie
or whatever. I'm looking for value.

One rule. It can't be a one time special deal. There has to be at least enough so anyone who wants one can find one relatively easily.

I really like Mosin Nagants, and Mausers, You can get a Turkish Mauser for under $50, and an M44 for $50. They are cheap guns that fire cheap but corrisive ammo.

I'm real tickled with my M44's; the other Mosin-Nagants are great too and tend to be a little more gentle on the shoulder than the short, light ones. The Mausers that are on the market- the 48's, the Yugos, etc. and the SKS's are pretty spiffy too in terms of total cost of ownership.

One word: MAKAROV

Whether you choose East German (if you can find one), Bulgarian or Russian - you just can't beat the Makarov in terms of "bang for the buck" factor.

I have had three different Makarovs, all three of which were/are excellent shooters. Great accuracy, great reliability and easy to carry.

I bought an East German model - one that I still own at a local gun shop for about $240. My father-in-law just bought a Bulgarian one at a gun show per my recommendation for an amazing $159!!! If they had had another one, I would have also purchased another one for myself.

The finish on it is excellent, and it is very reliable and accurate! I shoot my Makarov as much or more than my MUCH more expensive 1911s or revolvers.

Ammo can be purchased at local gun shops, at gun shows - or you can get hollow point ammo online (such as at ammoman.com) for about $5-6 per box of 50 - and that is hollow-points!

If you don't own one, you should get one. You won't be sorry.

Although they are dryin up fast, the Swedish Mausers are one helluva rifle.
Not real pricey, but can hold it's own against most commercial models on the market today. Even in it's battle dress.

New and commercial: Handi Rifles-cheap, accurate, interchangable barrels
Milsurps: Mak's = handguns
Rifles: Yugo M-48's or Yugo K98 refurbs-can be found 'like new' for small bucks and I understand the Yugo SKS's are great. The M-48's are in great shape, incredible shooters and have CHEAP milsurp ammo available as well as quite serviceable new factory loads for hunting.

Czech VZ-24 Mauser 98's are also cheap and superb if you find one in good shape-just take your time and pick a good one.

Have to agree with the old battle rifles. Mosins, Enfields, Mausers and SKS's are really cheap to buy and shoot.

I still think the Ruger P series pistols are a great deal, too.

got an M44 and an 1891/30 each for under a hundred bucks. Available at your local gunshow. Fun as heck to shoot; best muzzle blast for the buck. Gotta clean 'em out RIGHT A WAY, though, or they will corrode on ya.

Another vote on the Makarovs. Somebody must have just released a bunch. My local gunshop got three, including an adjustable-sight Russian commercial model, all priced at $149! That beats the internet rate of $129, with shipping and transfer. Although I love my SOG Bulgarian, it came in unused condition. It's just starting to break in!

Another vote for the SAR series. If you have any desire at all for one....get it while you can. Same can be said for alot of the milsurps out there.

Domestic production: Ex-police trade-ins. Revolvers or rebuilt Glocks.
Foreign production: Most bargains are military surplus or reduced feature military like the SAR's. Maks are also a good buy but all of these foreign bargains seem to hinge around ultra cheap 7.62x39 or 9x18 ammo. If that ammo ever drys up ....

The Bersa 380 and High Power clones also seem to be good bargains.
