If I remember correctly didn't Jerry Miculek shoot an 8-round Smith 38 in that fast shooting video?

What model was it? Did they make anymore 8-round models?

Performance Center made an 8 round 627 Miculek model a few years ago.

I have no idea what they sell for now.

The 4" Model 627 (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=11101&langId=-1&productId=65218&tabselected=tech&isFirearm=Y&parent_category_rn=15706) is now a regular catalog item.

I would hate to see how big an 8 round cylinder is. I had a 7 shot snubby and it was too big.

Actually, the M627 is built on a "N" frame so the 8 round cylinder, while large, doesn't look too out of place because of the size of the frame.

S&W now makes a large variety of 8 round .357/.38 revolvers. There's the 627 regular production, 627 Pro Series, 627 Performance Center, 327 M&P R8, and the 327 TRR8. There may even be a couple others. As ArchAngelCD said, it is a standard N frame size, so while it is bigger than a L frame, it is by no means a beast.

And for the record, I think Miculek used a 625 in his speed shooting video, although he can almost certainly do it with a 627. .45ACP would load a little better in a hurry due to the larger diameter of the charge holes (bigger target to throw them in) and the shorter length of the cartridges (quicker to dump the old and toss in the new).

Taurus has had an 8 shot .357, the 608 (http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?id=250&category=Revolver), for several years now.

I was at the S&W IDPA Indoor Nationals last week and attended a shooting demo with Jerry Miculek.

Using a 625, he took 6 shots, reloaded and took 6 more shots in under 4 seconds. Using a 627 he took 8 shots in under a second. He also shot sideways and upside down, with all shots on target. His final shot was with a Smith 500, where he shot a deck of cards. One shot, and nothing left but shreds.

The "regular" 627 is not milled for moon clips, but the pro series and PC models are. They are also coming out with their Night Guard series, that has an 8 shot with 2 1/2 inch barrel and lightweight frame, it isn't milled for moon clips either.

The cylinder on the 8 shots are cut a bit different from other N frames. I'm not sure they are any bigger (I doubt they could be and still fit in the frame) but the holes are slightly nearer the outside. So an 8 shot cylinder couldn't fit in any non-8-shot frame, the barrel wouldn't line up.
