Remington 11-48 20 ga. cycling problem

I received a Rem 11-48 20 gauge with a Cutts for Christmas. On the first visit to the trap range, it functioned fine for about 15-20 rounds (No, I do not remember what loads I was using). Then it stopped cycling. It stopped throwing the empty and locking back. It does so by hand very smoothly, but will not after it is fired. This was a sudden malfunction. It wasn't gradual. I have fired it about 60 times since and it has required hand cycling every time. Was there such a thing as different poundage recoil springs or spacers for light/heavy loads?
Thanks,
John in Maine

Take the barrel off and clean & oil the magazine tube.
The 11-48 uses a friction piece kind of like the Browning A-5, only it is not adjustable for light / heavy loads.
But if there is no oil on the magazine tube, or the oil has dried out, there will be too much friction for light loads.

I think llike the model 11 the friction rings are re-positionable for different loads. You can get replacement ones from Numrich, but i would polish up the mag tube first.

Most of them have directions marked on the single, non-adjustable friction piece.
Something to the effect "This end toward barrel ring" or something.
All you can really do is oil the tube and make sure the ring is installed the right direction.
