Looked at two Mosin-Nagants today.

Two 91/30s to be exact. My quest to make a clone of the one used in "Enemy at the Gates" goes on. The first one had a tag on it that said "Unissued Mosin - $179". It looked good with matching numbers but had "Ocala, Fla" stamped on it. What does that mean, has it been refurbished? Also the sling mounts were slots cut thru the fore end and thru the stock. It had a metal hood around the front sight, too.
The second was kind of rough, but that's okay because I like the dents and dings. It had rectangular metal rings hanging at the front and back for the sling to hook onto. It also had a hexagon reciever. This one didn't have a hood around the sight, it was sticking up by itself. The asking price is $127.
What do you guys think? The first one has a sling, a cleaning kit and a bayonet, too.
I'm getting one of them I just don't know which one.

The sling slots on that first one are what you normally see. The name on it is the address of the importer, probably Aztec. It should have an abbreviated name on there, although sometimes they are hard to read.
The second one sounds like a Finn especially in the condition it's in. I don't think Russians had that type of sling mount, but I may be wrong. Check to see if it has an "SA" stamped on the top of the reciever. If it is a Finn, please pick the other(Russian) to modify. Finnish Mosins are a bit more rare than Russins.
The price is high. You can get a 91/30 direct from Aztec for $80. Even with s/h and transfer fees, you'd do a lot better.

Cole's has some nice Mosins also:

Your second rifle is DEFINITELY a Finnish 91/30 - I've got one just like it, and mine shoots like it's got eyes. If you can afford both rifles, I strongly recommend the Finn - its workmanship and accuracy will probably be much better than most any Russian 91/30 you'll find - but, like DMK, I implore you to leave the Finnish rifle as-is, if you do get it.
If you want to remodel the first (Russian) 91/30 into a sniper rifle, a good first step is to check out "Jim the Boltman" - he advertises on www.gunboards.com, and can supply a replacement bolt body with the handle bent down like a sniper for about $35, IIRC. He can even stamp numbers into it to match the serial # of your rifle, if you ask.
After that, you'll need the correct scope and mount - check around on gunboards.com again - and the receiver will need to be drilled/tapped for the mount, which your favorite local gunsmith ought to be able to handle for you. BTW, if you look closely at the rifle that "young Vassily" is using in the very first scene of EATG, you'll see two screws on the left side of the receiver - those screws are where a sniper 91/30's mount would be attached, and the rectangular piece of wood surrounding them is to fill the stock cut-out for the scope mount. Once you accomplish that, you should have an excellent "fun gun," which may or may not shoot like Vassily Zaitsev's rifle, but will at the very least make watching certain movies  :D MUCH more rewarding to watch.

Check out the 91/30s at SOG. They're 94$ and in beautiful condition. I got a 1928 Izzy Hex from them in excellent + condition.

$179 is WAY too much.

Cool 9mm.
Definitely check out Aztec. The stamping is the importer stamping and as DMK stated, more than likely from Aztec since they are in Ocala, FL. You would do better just ordering from them and having it sent to your FFL.

I agree, that is way too much money for a 91/30.
I bought one about two years ago for $35. And it wasn't bad at all. I cleaned all the dirt, grime, and cosmoline off of it. Re-oiled the stock and it looks as good as any I have seen.
I also bought an arsenal refinished 91/30 with all the do-dads; bayonet, sling, cartridge belt, and oiler for less than $179.
