Hello,
I have decided that I need a .22 semi auto. So I have pretty much decided on the ruger. Don't see many Brownings around here. So I need to know what I should do. 22/45 or MkII? I can learn to like anything so I know about the grips. I've done searches on here and read all about it but have forgotten the results. I found a new Gun shop today that has the blued 22/45 new for $240. I think thats a pretty good price and I'm sure the MK II would be around the same. And amazingly enough thats what I want to spend. What are some results of shooting both? One more accurate than the other? I'm just wanting it to plink, maybe hunt with.

Thanks

I love mine. Putting it back together can be tricky the first few times, but it's really not as bad as alot of folks make it out to be. It's a great gun to introduce beginners to shooting, and it's the only gun I always bring to the range.

I've since installed a set of William's Fire Sights, suggested by TwoBlink. They're adjustable fiberoptic sights and love them.

BTW, Ruger's customer service is top notch.

I think the accuracy would be the same. I prefer the 22/45, larger easier to handle grip.

I know you said there aren't a lot of Brownings there - but I have a Browning Buckmark Target .22 (the model with the rosewood grips) and wouldn't trade it for any other .22 pistol I've tried. If you have a range around you that rents guns or a club where someone might have a Buckmark give it a try before you make up your mind if you can. Good luck with whatever you get!

I'd get the Ruger Mark II. I wish to Christ I could but it's not allowed in my state. If it were, I'd have two....:D

The MK II is probably a little more expensive, but not much. It's nicer, being all steel, but the grip angle is very different. The 22/45 is slightly easier to disassemble.

Try sighting down each in the gun shop - the grip angle will probably make up your mind.

If you can't tell a difference, and the price is right, I'd go steel. Also, look for a used Gov't. model. It might be quite reasonable, and comes with a scope mount.

The Buckmark is also very nice, but there is nothing at all wrong with either Ruger.

I've shot both, own a slabside mk II. Really, both are very nice pistols and should come down to which you can get the better deal on ;) Good luck!

I have a Mk II Bull Barrel target. I still miss my Mk Is. As an all rounder, the Ruger Mk II 4" fixed sight has much to recommend it. I recently fired a short bbl Mk I with a low profile adjustable rear sight. I was much impressed.

I prefer the Browning .22s to Ruger for a number of reason. Chief among them easy of disassembly/reassembly and reliablity.
