What's the good, bad, and the ugly? What is a good price and when are you getting the shaft? Local shop has a few Yugoslavian's for $200/$250.

But the price is a little high. Interordnance still has like new, unissued SKSs for $180. If your local store has the unissued ones, $200 would be ok (given you'd have to add shipping and FFL fee to the $180 to get one from IO).

You have to be reasonable. A minty Yugo SKS can be had from a distributor (AIM, SOG) for $160 +/- plus shipping and sales tax (if any). The dealer needs to make a worthwhile profit (:barf: ) tacked on to his cost (economics 101). Did the dealer buy it for $179 six months ago and is stuck with that price/cost? Maybe he is the idiot dealer that I see at the gunshows all the time pricing his firearms geared towards that "sucker born every minute". Six months ago a local vendor was selling G-VG condition Yugos' for $179 plus tax. Aim had "like new" SKS's for that price but I didn't wish to drive 400 miles round trip to save $30. Besides I have 2 Russian SKS's and I really don't need a third (but they are nice). I refuse to ask a dealer to use his FFL, more than once they have ordered mine plus a couple more and then gave me the worse of the lot!:fire:. Just go back to your idiot dealer and tell him you are just going to wait for the next gunshow to buy. He may be very friendly and point you in the direction of the door.:D

A good reason to have a C&R FFL. :)

I bought one in CA, with the muzzle device swap, for $180 retail. It was in really good, though not perfect shape. You shouldn't be paying more.

yeha, AIM surplus has new condition yugos for 160 or so w/ free shipping
but you gotta tack a transfer fee on to that if you have no C&R.....but that is still way under 250

The SKS that I am looking at is a Yugo with blade bayonet and grenade sights. The shop that I use for just about everything has 6 of them. Condition appears to almost new. They are selling for $190. I don't recall what all he said, but I was told that is comes in the box wrapped in cosmoline with a bunch of other goodies. Seems like a fair price.
Opinions please?

That sounds fair. AIM's selling them in like new condition for $150, but then since you don't have a C&R, you need to consider transfer fees. Around here, that's about $40, so your dealer's price is right on the money. Plus you get to hand pick it and you won't even have to wait for it to ship to you.
I'd say that if you can hand pick a nice one and walk out the door with it, anything under $200 is a good deal. The rifle is very well made and definately worth that. Hey, the dealer has to pay the bills and feed the family also.

I know what you mean about the dealer paying bills. I am a regular at this gun shop. Bought 3 guns from them, shoot at thier range every thursday night with several friends, and bring them new costumers whenever possible.
Thanks for the opinions.

I have heard a lot about the Curio and Relics license, how do you go about getting one exactly?

You download the C&R FFL Application Form (http://www.atf.treas.gov/forms/pdfs/f531016.pdf), fill it out and send it to ATF.
