Here's an interesting idea. I discovered last night that with only a tad bit of trimming to the front lips, M-1 Carbine magazines will perfectly hold .50AE ammunition. No need to change the spring or follower, just trim a little off the front lips.
Not only that, it will actually still fit and function with an M-1 Carbine action minus the lack of chamber fitting. Basically, an M-1 Carbine can be converted to .50AE the same way they convert them to .45 Win Mag and the normal M-1 Carbine magazines will fit and function .50AE just fine with only that tiny adjustment.
The only downfall is capacity. My M-1 Carbine magazines hold 32 rounds of .30 Carbine yet only 9 .50AE rounds filled up the magazine. Even still, the 40 round M-1 Carbines will probably hold a good 12 or 13 rounds! Something to think about.

That would be a DAMN expensive carbine to shoot. Especially if it held 13 rounds!
