Problems with Rem 870 20 Ga.

I just bought a Remington 870 20ga tonight and when I brought it home I tried to load some rounds into the magazine and they wouldn't go.
I was trying to load Federal target load in 9 size, and one would go, then the second wouldn't. Also, the first round would struggle to chamber. The gun had to be shook and the round wanted to stay jammed in the magazine. This was with multiple different Federal rounds, from two different boxes.
I also bought Remington Mag Nitro #4, and those seem to fit really tight, but they load in the magazine and chamber reliably.
The gun was sold to me from Gander Mtn, and billed as a used gun that was returned before it was ever fired. I figured I would save a few bucks, as it looks brand new. I have a one year warranty but this really worries me.
Any thoughts or ideas? I am going to bring it back to them as soon as I can, but this sucks!

Do what it says. Bet a dollar to 20 ga. shell that your problems will disappear. It is imperative to thoroughly clean new Remington 870's. If you take it back and get another one, you will still have to thoroughly clean it.

Double check the gauge markings on both the gun and the shells you bought. If they are both absolutely 100% the same gauge, then try cleaning the gun thoroughly (actually, you should do this anyway - Remington coats its guns with some kind of brownish crud to keep them from rusting during shipping).
If the gun and shells are definitely both 20 gauge and the cleaning didn't work, try buying a different brand of shells and trying them - it could be the shells you bought are out of spec.
If the gun still doesn't load properly, I'd say take it back to the store.

My 870 did this a little when I first bought it too. After you get a few boxes through it, things will start to work themselves out.
BTW: I didn't clean my gun before firing it. That may have helped things out a bit. I gave her a good scrubbing after the first few hundred rounds though.

STiT,
Your 20 gauge would load some shells and not others as well?
I just can't imagine that anyone would make shells that don't fit into an 870. The Remington shells fit snugly, but chamber fine from what I can tell. I haven't actually shot the gun yet though, so we will see when it is fired and chambered more quickly.
I just don't get it. I will try to clean it, but a brand new(ish) gun has enough gunk for not more than 1 Federal shell to load in the magazine? That is insane if you ask me. And that one shell just gets stuck in the magazine and won't chamber, you have to wiggle and pry it out of there.
Any more thoughts?
Thanks for everything so far, I am just still shocked.
