Hi Sludge, are you from the Roaring River on Hwy 268 past Rhonda? If
so there is a range near you in North Wilkesboro that does IDPA and an occasional 3 Gun. I hail from the "wonderful" area of Winston-Salem.

Hello Sludge. Visited your state this year and chowed down at Carolina BBQ near the border (with SC). It was a memorable meal (good food, lots of it and affordable).

that Carolina BBQ is worth writing home about

yeah to warn your family from out west to eat the REAL stuff before they come visit!! :D (or in my case to load up before moving in to stay)

I can say that, i grew up in Durham. and the above mentioned action is what my father did when the family moved from Memphis TN to Durham.

Vinegar and peppers is NOT "barbecue sauce" !!!! Sauce is red and has BODY .

the Barbecue is the only thing about NC that i DON'T miss.

Welcome to THR!

Hmmmm..... North Carolina.....

Just visited NC (Charlotte) for the 1st time 2 weeks ago on an interview, and loved it. Now my wife and I are moving there from L.A.! Heard good things about the BBQ too! Someone told me that it's vinigar based and quite different from KC BBQ. Is that true? Also had my 1st sweet tea down there - good stuff!

Gonna be good livin' in the South!

I'm no expert in BBQ but I do appreciate regional variety. IIRC vinegar and pepper BBQ sauce is peculiar to eastern NC. There is a regional variation in eastern SC that uses the same sauce but is obscenely hot. Then there is the mustard and honey base BBQ found in central SC.

KC sauce is not really popular since it is more like ketchup and Karo syrup. Lots or regional variation is available.

Welcome to THR.. I grew up in Wilmington (that was a very long time ago, just how long i won't say) and I sure do miss the salt air. I met a Georgia Peach who did not want to move and believe me that is the only thing that could convince me to move. Anyway welcome and oh yes I do miss tha Flips barbacue on Oleander drive in Wilmington...:D :D

Ahh.... good ole' NC! Lived there for 17 or years! Actually not far from Wilmington - bought several guns there. I was down in Jacksonville which held (still holds?) the distinction of having the lowest per capita income of any metropolitan area in the U.S! Plus some of the most crooked gun shops to be found anywhere! I will have to say the farther west I drive in NC the more and more appealing the state becomes - did not realize how scenic the western half is!

My good friend lives in Raleigh - that place just keeps growing each time I visit - I visit there a few times a year , shoot at nice range when I am down there. Seems to make in Raleigh you have to make at least 50 grand a year. Still like visiting.

If I were to return to NC to live I sure would like to be out in the western part this time. Still , a lot of memories down on the coast , where I grew up , where I was finally able to begin my shooting passion!

Actually not all pork BBQ in NC is tarted up with the vinegar "sauce". They do a fair tomato based sause there too. In some ases not too diff than what turns out to be so good beef down here in TX.
And, the eastern part of the state is not the only place to find good BBQ in Carolina.

Better by far than going to a BBQ joint is going to a pig pickin. It's done differently in NC than in SC but when the pig turns out right it's great eating.

Somewhere in TX I bet they do a cow or steer pickin.
I'm looking for that place.

dern sure got THAT right!! actually to be fair after living in NC for 16 of my 26 years i rather like cnetral/eastern NC barbecue, was well as Memphis style, and to some extent TX style (still can't quite bring myself to call beef "Barbecue" yet, only been down here 3 years)

Somewhere in TX I bet they do a cow or steer pickin.

if you find it will you promise to tell ME, as well as the rest of us??!!!! :D :D (where is that "drooling fool" icon???)
