Quieting bipods

I just bought a Harris and it goes 'twang' every shot. I need to put something on the springs to quiet it. Any ideas?

Make sure you have it on the right direction. I've only seen one harris go twang, and it was because it was on backwards. The legs should fold forward.

Check. Legs fold forward.

Extend very slowly w/hand over spring to dampen the Harris twang.

No, not while extending the legs, I'm just talking about shooting at the range, Every shot makes the springs go twang. Just something I can hear through the muffs that made me think my rifle was broken. No big deal just annoying.

Put the bipod on an Ar15, you wont notice the bipod's twang anymore. :D

If it REALLY bothers you, you can cut some of those foam rubber "pipe insulators" to length and slip them over the legs and springs; I see them in Home Depot all the time, in 3' and 6' lengths.

I often wondered about the noise that the springs would make, and didn't much care for the design with springs in the first place.
The three bipods I have (aftermarket) are Versapod, and they are quiet and very good, but they don't seem to be as popular as the Harris.

I'm wondering if a neoprene type rubber cover would dampen the sound.

Neoprene or maybe even some heat shrink tubing should dampen the springs.

Use what everyone else does in my part of the woods. Duck Tape! :D
We used to call it 100 mile per hour tape in the Army.
Good Shooting
