Hi,

I'm looking at buying a shotgun used from a guy. It's about 30 years old, has a crack in the stock (that's been repaired). It hasn't been shot much in recent years.

That's about the extent of what I know about it.

Asking price is $100.

What do you guys think? is that fair?

Disclaimer: I know nothing about shotguns. :scrutiny:

IMHO a functioning shotgun is alwys worth $100. Aside from some H&Rs or NEFs or some garage workshop hacksaw barrell jobber, but a funtioning 500 should be good to go for $100. If you don't get it let me know I might take it.

I guess that's an OK price...But you could buy a NIB 500A for $209.99 at Wal-Mart... If it were my choice, I'd get a new one with no hidden problems.

That's a very fair price for a working shotgun. Butt stocks are usualy pretty cheap for them on ebay so if the repair isn't to your taste you can replace it for not much.

That is a decent deal on a good solid basic shotgun. If the crack in the stock bothers you, Mossberg sells stocks for all their shotties, or you could buy an after-market stock set from Hogue in their "Over-Molded" series.

If it's in good functional working order that's a very good price. If you don't take it point me in his direction. I'm in the Triad and can always use another 12 ga pumpgun (like 6 isn't enough?) :D.

You can buy a Mossberg Maverick for about 150-175 new. Same as a 500, just has a crossbar safety instead of a tang safety. Takes all Mossy 500 aftermarket stuff too. Goes bang when you pull the trigger. Its the same gun used to male the Serbu Super Shorty.

Um..........no. An 870 is the basis for the Serbu.

EDIT: I stand corrected. they do make them with the maverick. Had no idea. All the ones I've ever seen are 870 variants.

Interesting.
