I agree with the term that every gun owner should have at least one G19.

Yes, it is that good.:D

Nothing good can come of this thread, as it's all been done to death... In the past week, in three other threads.

Maybe I should start a "Discuss the greatness of the Model 1911" thread, then someone else can post a "Discuss why the greatness of the Glock 19 is more awesome than the greatness of the Model 1911" thread, then...

Wow, three guys trash your thread right off the bat. Harsh.

I'll chime in. My Glock 19 was the first pistol I ever purchased. Never selling it. I've bought many more, of all makes and models, from $200-$2000 per, and I still go back to Glocks. There.

I did not start out hating glocks but I like other guns better and glock fanboys who tout them as the end all best have brought me to a high level of distain.

What's your point?

Just about every type of weapons has it's "fanboy" that touts what they prefer as the end all best.

Fanboys of other makes that infringe on threads with the sole purpose of disruption... This is what brings me to a high level of disdain.

I like the G19, but it is to small for my hand. The G17 and G21 fit me like custom fit tools.

I own two Glocks, a G22 and a G19. The G22 is o.k. but the G19 is about the best feeling/shooting Glock I've handled. It isn't my favorite 9mm, it hasn't made me want to purchase another Glock and I don't see any more Glocks in my future; but if you were only going to own one Glock it should be a G19.

To bad all of us gun owners can't appreciate ALL guns.

It gets old seeing people come in and crap on threads that do not interest them.

Remember, you do not have to post in every thread.

I for one like Glocks, but then again I like all quality weapons and don't have anything bad to say about them. Sure some don't work well for me, but that's the reason why there are so many choices.

What's great about the Glock 19?
Reliability, accuracy, cost, caliber, size, weight, capacity, mag availability & cost, parts availability & cost, ease of doing the minimal required maintenance, durability, and the thousands of Glock certified armorers throughout the Western World should you really have a problem.

The grip angle doesn't work for me though, and I don't want to cough up the money for a CCF race frame & 1911 angle backstrap. However, I'm still going to buy one. As soon as an ugly duckling beat up G19 that I can buy cheap gets traded into the shop I'm buying it. I'll then do the grip reshaping myself.

Let's see, the Glock 19,,,,,,
About the size of a Colt Officers 1911 style pistol.
G-19 holds 15 shots verses six shots in the Officers pistol.
Fully loaded with 16 rounds, the G-19 weighs less than a steel frame Officers Model Colt .45 loaded with 7 rounds.
G-19 is more controllable than any small .45
9mm ammunition is cheaper than .45 acp ammunition.
Glock 15 shot magazines are cheaper than most Colt 1911 six round officers style magazines from any brand name that are considered reliable.
The G-19 ISN'T a .45 acp

Why can't we just have a Glock 19 club like other threads are the 642 Club or the SIG Club or the CZ-75 club?

And what about folks who love both the Glock 19 AND the 1911, like, uhm, moi?

I better get a couple more before the election!

I own better looking,better made,better pointing,better finished,better shooting,more accurate,more easily concealed,more expensive/less expensive...handguns but choose to carry a G19.

Why,when there seem to be guns that are better in any given way? Because when it all averages out, what matters most to me is ease of use, reliability and having personal faith and comfort in a tool that is there simply to get the job done.It might not be very sexy but I know what's going to happen every time I pull the trigger and the G19 hits the happy medium for me when it comes to shootability vs carry comfort and concealment, caliber and capacity.I should say cost, convenience and controlability for a few more c words too.

I understand that some people just don't like them when it comes to aesthetics and some still think plastic is bad or that 9mm isn't viable or that guns need external safeties, and those are all valid personal opinions, but I have a VERY,VERY hard time taking anyone seriously who in any way badmouths the G19 when it comes to function. The things just flat out work.

Oddly enough, this is the only Glock I'd consider buying...actually it's the only Glock I AM buying...

The rest of them just dont fit my hands correctly, but the G19 fits.

I had a hard time deciding between a CZ P-01 and the Glock 19, but dammit I want to see what the fuss is about with Glocks so I went ahead with it.

Glock 19 with Glock Night Sights.

One of my most favored and most carried pistols I own. Compact, lightweight, accurate, reliable, and durable beyond anything I could and have put it through. Bought it back in 1994, and it still looks awesome despite many years of being carried.

Last summer, I bought a third generation Glock 23 expecting to fall in love with it much like my Glock 19, but it's not happened. Something about it, but it's no 19.

I realize now how much I like the second generation Glock frames. I may never get a Glock 23 again, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate in purchasing another second generation Glock 19. Perfect? No, far from. Suits my needs for carry? Very much so. I'll never part with it.

Simply put, it does what it does and it does it well.

I dislike Glock threads and only somewhat like Glocks but the 19 impresses me as among the Glock models that make the most sense. I need a 19 eventually. I passed a very early one in ok shape at $300(or was it $350?) last year.

I've had one for ten years and recently spent some money on upgrades (night sights, better holsters). Other handguns have come along (e.g., S&W M&P and CZ75) that I like a little better, but I would not get rid of it. I think it is pretty indisputable that it is the most size-efficient, i.e., the smallest, lightest pistol around that still holds 15 rounds.

Onmilo (My corrections in red)
Let's see, the Glock 19,,,,,,
About the size of a Colt Officers 1911 style pistol. Actually about the size of a Commander
G-19 holds 15 shots verses six shots in the Officers pistol. Officers models now hold 8 in 45 ACP, 9 in 9mm.
Fully loaded with 16 rounds, the G-19 weighs less than a steel frame Officers Model Colt .45 loaded with 7 rounds. Why don't you compare it to the Commander, which was originally designed with a lightweight aluminum frame in 9mm.
G-19 is more controllable than any small .45 I have better control over a .45 ACP Commander than I do a G19. I can't wait to have my own Lightweight Commander in 9mm which is even more controllable.
9mm ammunition is cheaper than .45 acp ammunition. Not all 1911s are chambered in .45 ACP
Glock 15 shot magazines are cheaper than most Colt 1911 six round officers style magazines from any brand name that are considered reliable. I can buy McCormick Shooting Star mags for .45 ACP 1911s for less money than I can G19 mags, and 9mm for close to what I can buy G19 mags. If you find a dealer who doesn't price gouge for the Colt name you get Colt mags for just a little more than G19 mags too.

Given the Glock 19 has an edge on capacity to 1911s, and generally beats them on price. Like I said in my previous post, the Glock 19 is a very good pistol. It's a very good pistol on its own merits, regardless of how it compares to variants of the venerable M1911.

Addendum to ugaarguys corrections:

1. I compared it to an Officers Model because I didn't want to hijack the thread discussing the even smaller Glock 26.
2. 8 rounds compared to 15 rounds, Glock still wins.
3. Aluminum frame Colts still crack frames. Glock still wins.
4.YOU may have better control of your .45acp Commander, the average shooter is not so skilled.
5. There is a difference between high quality and cheap.
My experience with McCormick products has been that the products may be cheaper than brand X but they don't meet the definition of high quality.

16 rounds of 9mm still outguns 10 rounds of 9mm.:D

In all fairness I should add that I am not a 1911 hater, I shot the guns for years in competition and in Service.
I still own three or four but I also keep up with trends and in caliber .45acp I now shoot H&K USP pistols.
13 rounds of 45acp still beats 9 rounds of .45 acp
13 rounds of .45 acp still beats 11 rounds of .45acp if you want to argue 10 shot extended 1911 magazines, I have a few of these too.

As for caliber wars all, of the big three are pretty much on even footing with modern ammunition.

Remember, this thread ask the question 'why the Glock 19 is so great', not why someone feels compelled to defend the 1911 against the Glock 19.

I think the 19 is great; it's a glock, but the 17 is greater, 2 extra rounds, and the extra room for a comfortable grip

Remember, this thread ask the question 'why the Glock 19 is so great', not why someone feels compelled to defend the 1911 against the Glock 19.
I managed to answer the question without bringing any other gun into the fray. You felt compelled to compare it to a 1911, so I answered. You opened the can of worms.
5. There is a difference between high quality and cheap.
My experience with McCormick products has been that the products may be cheaper than brand X but they don't meet the definition of high quality.
Well I guess that's why there are different brands. I've had better experience with McCormick Power Mags and Shooting Stars than I have the Wilson 47D. If you don't like McCormick Colt OEM mags only cost $3 more than Glock factory mags, an insignificant amount.
I can't get my short fat fingers comfortably around any USP. Thankfully they make polymer frame double stack 1911s with the same or more capacity as the USP. Some cost about the same too, and they actually fit my smaller hands pretty well.
4.YOU may have better control of your .45acp Commander, the average shooter is not so skilled. In my case it's more a result of gun fit than skill. I'm decent, but I'll be the first to admit I'm not that good. My 1911s that fit me well make me look good. ;)
As for caliber wars all, of the big three are pretty much on even footing with modern ammunition.I completely agree with you on that.

There are a lot of great guns extant, and the G19 is truly one of them. 16 rounds of hot 9mm +P on tap in a simple, compact, stone reliable, easy to work on, universally established, parts & mods galore, wonderful shooter... there is a lot to like about that! The 19 is among my very favorites.

it's not that great crappy trigger, grip angle does not point naturally and I don't need one for my collection.

Just about every type of weapons has it's "fanboy" that touts what they prefer as the end all best.
every time I see a glock or 1911 which should I get thread,1911 fans will say try them both and get whichever you shoot best. most glock fans will say just get a glock.
