Lord knows I have other things to do with my money right now...
My job isn't as secure as I would like right now...
I'm facing some home repair bills soon...
But I've always wanted one of these... :)
If someone outbids me, I won't be too upset... (yeah, right!)

Good luck Mike. That's a beauty. Are you going to start the Lenin Red Guard with that (proto-AK) Remmy?;)

That rifle looks like it's in great shape. The price is very reasonable, too. Hope you get it! It would be a fine rifle to own. And a pretty reputable caliber too. If you land that one, hope to hear a range report! Good luck!

No, no Red Guard.
I want it not because it's a Remington 81, but because it's in .300 Savage.
I have a Model 99 in .300, and a Remington 722 in .300.
I'll need to get a Remington 760 in .300, and a Savage Model 20 to round out the "common" collection of rifles chambered in .300.
Oh, I forgot, the Remington 700 Classic (which I started pestering Remington for when I was with American Rifleman. Can't remember his name, Dick something, head of media affairs for the company at the time. I pitched my case hard! :) ).
And then the rarest of the rare...
A Winchester Model 70 in .300 Savage. TURBO rare, very expensive....

The 300 Savage is a terrific bullet - the precursor to the 7.62 mm Nato in performance. That and a Remmy M81. Good luck Mike.

4 hours and 22 minutes left. You're still the high bidder Mike. Cross your fingers and lead your Red Brigade forward in the cause of the lumpen proletariat everywhere! ;)

The crappy thing about it is that if someone DOES outbid me, I can't do anything about it as my company has blocked access to the auction sites!

Muhahaha, I just bid $305, its mine baby!

Enjoy the next four hours, you're still the high bidder.

Mike Irwin, I hope you get the rifle.
However, I must say that posting a link to a rifle on an auction site that is going for a low price to a bulletin board full of gun nuts is not very smart, in my book.
It's kind of like walking down an urban back alley with $20 bills hanging out of your back pocket while simutaneously waving a crack pipe around carelessly.
It's like skinny dipping with Great White sharks with bloody pork chops tied to your ankles.
In all three cases, it's just asking to get whacked, or out bid, as the case may be.
But then again, I have been accused of being a paranoid hillbilly from time to time.......

"However, I must say that posting a link to a rifle on an auction site that is going for a low price to a bulletin board full of gun nuts is not very smart, in my book."
Well, couple of ways of looking at it.
First is that I would hope that if someone from the board wanted the rifle, they'd let me know they're interested in bidding on it, and perhaps we could work something out gracefully regarding price.
Perhaps personal honor is too much to expect among gun nuts? :D
Second is that if I were TRULY rabidly wanting this rifle, I'd keep it secret from my best gun buddies, the ones whom I know would NEVER EVER try to screw me over. But why put temptation in front of them. :)

Funny, I wouldn't even think about trying to out bid somebody on this forum who posted something like what Mike did.
A buddy of mine just came up to me at work to tell me about a great deal on a Beretta shotgun.....I mean really good, steal kind of thing. I wouldn't think about jumping in ahead of him and buying it out from under him even though it is something I want.
Personal Honor isn't dead. I may not be the nicest person and I may be a borderline F Everybody kind of guy but when it comes down to it I always tend to think about how I would feel in the reveresed situation. Not always the smart thing but frequently the right thing.
All that being said. Mike, if you want to borrow that gun let me know maybe we can work out a deal or I could rent it to ya.:what: What a great price.:D
1 hour and 36 minutes and you are still top bidder.

heck, i'm sure one of us could counter bid it for you, if you start to loose the auction

Gun,
That's what Chris offered to do, but I have a friend who is home after back surgery monitoring it for me.
Quite frankly, though, I think I've hit my high limit on the gun via proxy bid. If someone takes it over my proxy bid amount, I'm not going to take it any farther.

He got it!!
Barring of course the weasel words at the bottom of the page.
"Buyer Tip: If you're the High Bidder in an auction when it closes, don't assume you're the final High Bidder. Someone could outbid you in the final seconds of the auction if your Max Bid isn't high enough. You're not the High Bidder until you've been notified by email that you are. All Auctions are conducted in Pacific Standard Time."

Mike, you owe us each a beer for not bidding on it. Congratulations. Gary

Glad you got it, Mike.
But, if I HAD gotten a hankerin' for such a rifle, and had snatched that baby away at the last minute, do you really think I'd post a range report on this website?
Yeh, yeah, honor is just fine.
But when it comes to firearms deals and women, all bets are off in my book and it comes down to pure Darwinian he who gets there first claims the prize.
And, I have a lovely, interesting gun-nut wife and a safe full of guns to show for my efforts over the years........
