If using Fed Ex for shipping FFL to FFL, does it have to go overnight like UPS? If so, is it a regulation or federal law? TIA.

It has to go overnight whether you're using Fedex or UPS. It's not law, just both companies policy. Monopolies are nice.

Also Fedex now has a new rule that the gun must be disassembled (firing pin and all). I suppose UPS is sure to follow suit. I found this out about a month ago on this forum I believe, but didn't really think about it until I shipped out a gun on Monday, the counter lady asked me. "Is the gun disassembled?" And I kinda thought for a half second flashing back to this forum and then said, "Yes.". :rolleyes:

I would imagine your average Fedex employee wouldn't know what a firing pin is or what it looked like. I would just take the slide off the frame and that would probably suffice. Revolvers would be tougher, most probably could not do this, particularly with a hammer mounted pin.

It has been my experience that some, maybe most, Fedex don't know their own rules when it comes to shipping handguns. The last 2 times I shipped a pistol, I disclosed to them them that it was a pistol as you are required to do but I did not ask to have it shippped priority overnight (by 10:30 AM delivery, the most expensive way). I waited to see if they would ask me how I wanted it shipped and they did. I asked what my options were and I chose 2nd day which was considerably cheaper.

Per federal law, you are only required to disclose to the shipper that it's a handgun if it is being sent to a non-licensee (ie, it's not going to an FFL).

Same deal as Alamo...shipped a gun to ford's for hard chroming and told them what it was...they asked me if 3 day would be okay but I took second day...whole lot cheaper than overnight....

It's my gun, not Federal Express'. All Federal Express is doing is moving it from point A to point B. It's none of Federal Express' business what's in the box.

I can tell you as an FFL nobody I buy handguns from dissasembles their guns when shipping through FedEx. The all come ready to go, just add ammo.
