I recently added a new 870HD to the fold, but I am not new to 870s. I am thinking about selling the factory +2 extension kit because I think it makes it a bit front heavy.

I was thinking about buying a Scattergun Technology +1 Extension as a compromise between the stock magazine & the +2. However, I do know that its almost a requirement to always use a clamp with the +2 extension. Is the +1 extension short enough that it breaking it off at the magazine threads isn't a real threat?

Don't do it:what:!:p. I did that and regreted it. The factory extension will do anything the wilson combat extension will do plus you'll save your money. Remington did it right when they designed that extension. They designed the extension tube with a groove that the cross screw of the clamp goes through. It's made that way to prevent the clamp from walking up the extension under recoil. The factory piece is also built better.

Flip.

Walking clamps is a real issue, a design that deals with it is superior.
