Hey guys....I'm looking for some quick feedback. I have an opportunity to buy an old Remington mechanical thrower tomorrow for $50. I looked at it today. It is a big old Iron thrower (looks like a big iron flywheel, mounted to a board). Probably weighs 30lbs. It is cast iron and marked Remington Arms..... It is rusty, but in working condition. I don't have any idea what something like this would go for, and can't find anything like it on the web. Does that sound like a fair price to you? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New ones go for like $40 (Hoppes at Walmart and Kmart) and are a total POS (or at least in my experience, the soil at my range is very bad, so once we hammered the thing into the ground it would work itself loose in 15-20 birds, we bent one leg to about 30deg trying to hammer it in one day), I'd say get the old-school one and a can of Krylon.

I'll probably use this at least once, but it's more of a collectible. I'm not sure of the date of manufacture, but it appears to be 50-60 years old, or older. I just called the seller and told her I'd take it. The seller is a tall, young, gorgeous, blond woman (who drives a 4x4 and shoots)....I couldn't say no...it wouldn't have been gentlemanly.

i borrowed one of those outers pigeon chuckers from a friend. here was his fix for it digging.

weld a piece of channel to the front legs an then a piece of angle to the rear leg.

bolt to a tire.

works pretty good. my wife can get it to chuck a nice straight bird with a good arc....................me on the other hand..........

Willyjixx:
Ours came with the instructions for bolting it to a tire, but our trap range is about 100 yards from where we can park our cars through some mild brush. It wouldnt be very practical to roll the tire through the brush, so we just use one of the red plastic throwers now.
