Best Price on Remington 870 or NEF Pardner

Just what the titles says. What is the best price for a Remington 870 or NEF Pardner 12 gauge shotguns?

I got an 18" Pardner recently at Academy Sports for $169.

I don't know where you live, but around here (Houston,TX) Academy has the best prices on guns. The selection isn't as good as some, but the prices more than make up for it. I've seen Rem 870s go for 189.00 there during the hunting season sales. No, I don't work for them. ;)

I recently got my NEF Pardner Protector 12 ga. for $166 + tax.

The Protector with a mag tube extension, 7+1 capacity. They are nice, tight, solid and well made shotguns. They are built like a tank, overbuilt.

One can still find a used 870 for less than $200 if one looks around a while.

It's made in the US. It has an unequalled track record for utility and longevity.

Parts, in the rare case it needs any, are available HERE and do not have to be imported.

Mechanical immortality available for a per shot cost of fractions of a cent.

Buy American....

Remington owns Marlin NEF H&R. You are buying from Remington an American company.

It makes no sense to buy a used 870 when you can get a New better made shotgun for less.

What is the difference besides the lengths of the Pardner 12 ga 18.5" barrel and 28" barrel? Is one more accurate than the other? Personal preference?

I wonder what will happen now that Remington has purchased Marlin which owns H&R/NEF. Will they offer all options and nothing will change? Will they drop the inexpensive Chinese-made competition to the Remington Express? Or, will they transition over to having the "Express" made in China and drop more American jobs? In the latter case "we" will save money while slowly bleeding to death. I believe that Cerberus which owns Remington has a track record of trying to bring its acquisitions into profitability not through liquidating assets but often by streamlining product lines. I suspect either the Express 870 or the NEF 870 clone is going to take a hit. Actually, I might pick up one of the NEF Pardners, but if I do it would be in addition to my Remingtons, not instead of.

The 870 has such brand recognition, I can't imagine they would drop it. Making it in China, on the other hand, I could see. In other words, re-branding the Pardner Pump is not hard to imagine.

Of course, they are importing Russian semi-autos which directly compete with their own domestic semi-auto, so...

Gary A, Those are good questions. It is hard to say what will happen. I would prefer that the 870 stay an American made shotgun. I would like to see Remington improve on it's quality. I hope they keep the Pardner pump. I believe they will considering they sale other imports.


If you decide to get one of the Norinco shotguns. I would go with the Norinco 982, if you like ghost ring sights. It is a little lighter than the Protector and the GRS are nice. The 982 doesn't have the hump-back design so it has less steel in the receiver. You get a little more for your money with the GRS. If you like a bead sight only shotgun you can't go wrong with a Protector for the money.

CDNN has demo 870's (not Expresses) they have orange stocks and 18" barrels for $189.

Right now, look for sales on turkey guns.

However, turkey guns tend to be camo/synthetic and a little higher than the stock wood model 870.

If you can wait till dove season, you'll find more sales with 870s in the $200 or less range. That's not to say that you can't find a similar price now. However, I've seen more such sales on the 870 in the fall.
