 Okay, I just have to wonder. Just how many ex-Nazi wartime handguns are out there? Looking at certain models, (HSc, Browning 1922, PPK's, etc...) especially on Gunbroker, a great majority seem to have German military marks. I just have to wonder how many of these are phonys, stamped well after the fact. Any ideas?

The Doc is out now.

Fake marking are out there but the Nazis used A LOT of substitute standard handguns. Also the Astra 300,400,and 600 and even the Norweigian version of a .45acp 1911 clone was used!

the Kongsberg.

but they also had plenty of captured weapons that made it into the catalog

the polish radom was adopted after poland fell.

Pistole 657(n) Ex "Kongsberg Colt" - Calibre .45

Pistole 660(a) Ex "M1911" - Calibre .45

Revolver 662(a) Ex "Smith & Wesson Mod 1917" - Calibre 45
and plenty more

interesting.. they seperated the Smith fromt he colt M1917 into the
Revolver 661(a) Ex " Colt Mod 1917" - Calibre 45
and
Revolver 662(a) Ex "Smith & Wesson Mod 1917" - Calibre 45

i assume this was cause the Smith didnt require a moon clip ( headspaced cylinder) where as the colt did.

This 1911 clone was called "11.25 m/m AUT. PISTOL M/1914" 1914 was the year that the Norwegian military approbated the pistol for use in the armed forces.

The German markings.
The only year that these markings were put on the "Kongsberg Colt", as it's commonly known, were in 1945. Norway was under German rule from 1940-45, but the German Waffenamt markings appear only on the pistols made in 1945. Production for this year was only 920 weapons. In total the Kongsberg Arms factory produced a total of around 33.000 M/1914 automatic pistols. The last pistol manufactured under German rule was number #30534. Any pistol with a higher number than that, or a pistol made in 40-42 (or any other year, for that matter) marked with Waffenamt markings are fake. No guns were produced in 43-44.

I so want the Norweigian .45acp, I mean 11.25:), I've only seen a few in my lifetime and handled one and a Radom would be nice as well. The Astra 400 IIRC was also not Nazi marked. Can be identified by serial numbers. I can't remember if the 600 was marked, I don't thinks so but I think 1-10500 were actually delivered to the Nazis.

My Astra 300 was definately marked and a friend of mine,I gave him a lead on a Czech CZ27 that was Nazi marked. It was only $125 but with a beat up holster and aftermarket mag but I'm too good a friend, I should have bought it!
