Hey all,

I've been lurking around making random comments whenever there was a Swiss K31 thread out there since I just picked one up a few weeks back - anyways, I had my eye out for a 22 LR just so I could kinda ease into rifle shooting since I really only shoot my Kimber 1911 clone and I haven't touched a rifle since, well i was...ten lol!

...so, last weekend I happened to stumble onto a thread about a a 22 LR Mosin Nagant look alike trainer called a WZ48, a Polish 22 LR Trainer. As luck would have it, I saw one (actually a scoped out mint condition one way over my price range) at the local gun show (Cow Palace) and completely fell head over heals crazy about it.

Long story short, I ended up picking up a normal WZ48 from a local seller and I got to take it out to the range tonight.

This rifle is SO much fun! I was hitting a tad high on a 25 yards at my local indoor range - I took a few pix too, enjoy!

hey thanks!

yeah, I'm going to kick off a couple rounds on this trainer and then probably pick up a M44 when i see another sale at the local Big 5 since 7.62x54r ammo is like what $40 for 440 rounds?! Swiss ammo surplus is $100 for 240 rounds if I'm lucky to find a good deal on the net...

How much is a WZ48 going for these days?

Well, i don't have a lot of places that'll stock this kind of rifle (big 5 doesn't count!) so I paid a little above what I thought I should, $225, but in the end I'm happy so I guess that's all that counts :p

That mint one at the gun show in SF I mentioned was $750 - it had a scope as well. I've seen normal ones without a scope on Gunbroker selling for $200 (one out there now). All the usual big name MiSurplus places I checked were not stocking them. I got mine from a guy who bought his a year or so ago from a place in Texas.

I DID find a random place online that had a few but the rifles were missing the Extractor - which I think could easily be made for a small price, but even this place sold out :(

*drools*

Considering what a huge fan I am of both Mosins AND .22LR, this is pretty much my dream gun. :)

Would absolutely love to find one. Collector's Firearms over here has one (no scope, but nice condition) for $700! That's the only local place I've seen that has one.

Going to scour the next gun show to find one properly priced.

I bought one a few years ago for 125 nice rifles. Here is some ink on WZ48s http://www.surplusrifle.com/articles2008/polish_wz48/index.asp

You're going to hate me when I tell you I paid about $120 for mine at a gunshow.

These were quite common a few years back in the $125 neighborhood. Very unique rifles and a lot of fun, especially for fans of the MN or of military trainers. Here's one with all matching numbers that I picked up when then they were more common:

Nah, just jealous. :) I hope I can find a deal as good as that one.

Collector's is always a little nuts. Surprise, it's still unsold:

geez, $700 bones...the one at the local show had an original scope on it, and it was $750!

the numbers on mine all match except for the extractor btw...so I think this just does to show that there may not be many ot there anymore other than from a private collection.

A nice condition WZ-48 runs about $275-$300 these days. Collection and Fountain, both from Houston, are the equivalent of the La Brea Tar Pits for excess personal wealth so beware! Preachere is getting ready to sell some on Gunbroker. They won't be numbers matching, but should be good shooters. If you REALLY want to dispose of some excess personal wealth, look for the older version that has Kbk S WZ-48 roll marked into the receiver and an archer on top of the receiver, made before the Ruskies forced them into compliance.

Found one at a gun show today!!

Darn things seem to have dried up recently, I paid $350. It's a 1955. Considering I was fixing to spend twice that on assorted other junk I am very happy.

Going to pick it up tomorrow, expect pics!
