M1 Carbine question.

I was looking at a Plainfield M1 Carbine today, and I noticed that with an empty mag inserted, the bolt doesn't hold open. is it supposed to be that way? I thought all US firearms held open after the last round.. though I noticed that the breechface (?? front of the bolt) looked pretty rough. maybe that has something to do with it? I've never really looked at one before, so I apologise if this is a stupid question...

The only last round hold open for the carbine was the GI 30 round magazine. It had a special follower that caught the bolt and held it open when the last round was fired.
The 15 round mags didn't have this feature.

cool. thanks for the response! the bolt still looks beat, but at least it's not broken. though the price is a bit high, methinks, for a non-warbaby carbie. they want $650!

650 Bucks for a used IAI carbine?
Where are you shopping? Tiffany's Jewelery and Guns, or Screwems Guns?

well, it's not an IAI, it's a plainfield. but I notice prices are usually way out of line here in Detroit..

Forget it. Plainfield is an aftermarket knock-off that doesn't even have the quality of the IAIs that are coming in. $650 is far too much money so please save your money for either a GI carbine or an IAI. Please?
