Olympic Arms AR 15 for only 540.00, how do their ARs stack up??
"Brand new in a hard plastic case. W/ 10rd mag and sling. AR 15 type rifle w/ A1 sights. "
I don't have an AR, but for under $550, I am tempted to pick this baby up. However, I am not familiar with O.A. They any good? Any feedback would be appreciated!

inspect the chamber looking for rings
Oly has a reputation for using reamers well past their prime

If you don't lose sleep over the cast reciever it's a good deal for a decent gun. Not the best gun buy any stretch, but if it's all the money you've got it'll get the job done. If you can squeeze out a few hundred more dollars then the PCR with the forged reciever will give you a better looking stronger piece. Practically the weakness of the cast housing shouldn't matter but YMMV.
I have a CAR-97 and once I opened up the magwells a little the gun has been perfect.

They aren't bad little guns and Oly will fix any problems you have with it. I've heard of more folks satisfied than dissatisfied with the little plinker series.
Just keep in mind that they are the lowest priced AR that they produce and you won't be dissatisfied. The ones that I have seen have had more of a baked on paint finish.

Cast receiver, forged receiver. The receivers really don't have much stress on them other than the weight of those axle-shafts they call barrels. My uncle has one of those 1.1 inch DPMS bull barrels. Looks like an axle shaft. I don't really worry about cast or forged. Yeah I prefer forged, but if the price was right and if it was a pre-ban, I'd jump on it. I did that at TFL.

Sounds like you are talking about the OLY "plinker". I have had one for several months now and have put 600 rounds through it without a hitch. I have 2 other AR's and the "plinker" compares quite well as far as fit and finish. The cast receiver is not an issue in the AR15 design as far as I am concerned and I know of no tangible reason that it should. The short barrel creates alot of muzzle blast but its a very handy rifle that outshoots my Colt SP1 hands down. The lifeime warranty speaks for itself, and their customer service is excellent. Well are you going to get a better deal at a better price? I could have spent $300 more but I wouldn't have a better rifle.
