Before anybody jumps me, I've tried the search function several times today. It either goes to the dreaded "This page cannot be displayed" page or says i can only search every 10 seconds. Please try back in 9 seconds.

I've been saving my pennies to get an M&P 9. While looking through the Cabela's catalogue today I noticed they have CZ 40's on sale for $349. They say that's 120 off their regular price.

I understand the 9mm ammo is cheaper but in this case the $100 or so I'd save with the CZ would subsidize a lot of 40 cal ammo.

Any thoughts on this particular CZ?

I want it primarily as a range gun. Home defense is secondary and CCW may or may not be a consideration down the line.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

I'm not sure if you are referring to the CZ 40-P, or the 40B. The 40-P is a hybrid - basically a 40B slide mated to a P-01 frame, with a spring-loaded decocker. The 40B has a frame angled more like a 1911 and a thumb safety.

Here's what a 40P looks like:

I used to own the 40P. It was a great pistol - very reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. The only downside for me was that very few accessories were available for them (night sights, holsters, etc.) I ended up selling it after I bought a P-01, and I wanted to consolidate calibers in my collection.

You may want to check out this forum for info on whichever one you are looking for: http://czechpistols82792.yuku.com/

I had the 40P for a brief time. Never did like it. Trigger slap, snappy recoil, horrible trigger creep (worse than my 75BD's).

Skip it, there are better guns out there.

I've had a CZ40B for about 5 or 6 years. I'm very happy with it. Shot it in USPSA competition for a while and it did well. Very accurate, not one problem or jam. Got a lot of questions and comments about it because it's an unusual gun. This is a very underrated gun.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It is the 40p, which on further investigation, looks like the compact version. That wasn't apparent, at least to me, in the ad. I'm going to follow my initial instinct and hold out for the M&P. Besides, I forgot to factor in the $50 rebate which makes the M&P only about $50 more expensive.
