Does anyone know anything about the Mossberg Model 500 Bullpup 12 gauge? I found a place offering to sell a used one for $320. It looks cool as hell. I think it holds 6 rounds.

That's a pretty low price. I'd jump on it just for the fun of it.

I bought it! :D

It was at my local Gander Mountain. They even threw in a free (Gander Mountain) soft sided rifle bag. I made sure it was a real Mossberg barrel and not a Maverick barrel. I called Mossberg to verify that it was a factory Bullpup and not a kit gun. I took it apart to inspect it. It was clean. There are some minor scuff marks on the Bullpup stock and heat shield but that's to be expected. It's not going to be a safe queen.

It holds 6 rounds.

I can't wait to take it to the range! The looks I'll get are going to be priceless! :what:

What's that on the muzzle?

I'm assuming it's a flash suppressor or muzzle break of some sorts. That's not a picture of the one that I bought. Mine is stock. Although, I am thinking of porting it on top of the barrel.

I used one for years. After a while the spot weld broke on the arm that works the trigger. Keep an eye on this and you should be ok.

I'd buy it probably. I've never seen one for sale locally. I'm surprised they didn't sell well. The movie Stone Cold with Brian Bosworth features one.

The reviews have been mostly positive.

The negatives that keep coming up are:

It's heavy (probably 10 lbs)
The trigger is heavy (felt fine to me when I dry fired it)
The sights suck (It's a shotgun! I'm not skeet shooting with it)

The positives:

short (18 inch barrel and 26 inches overall)
looks badass :fire:
unique
rare
looks from everyone when they see it for the first time :what:

I use one of the short ones for skeet, and actually do very well. I have a lot of fun with it and the only thing that needed replacing was the crossbolt safety spring on my most used one after I had put well over 1,000 through it.

And Switek had one on Miami Vice, though I've always preferred Rico Tubbs and the SBS myself. :)

Big44mag,

Wow! :what:

Very nice 4 of a kind you got there. I especially like the one to the far right (20 inch barrel and 8 shots).

I handled and shot one a little a while back. Balance to me was off, but it worked OK.

If it floats your boat....

I'm not fond of the carry handle, I think it'd be a lot spiffier without it. Enjoy it and shoot it lots.

You know, when I first saw it, I thought I wonder if I can remove that handle. You can. Originally, I was thinking of putting a rail with a red dot optic on it. Since then, I've carried it. It's pretty heavy (at least 10 lbs). I can't imagine a better more comfortable way to carry it other than the handle. So for now, the handle stays put.

is it a pump? I assume you have to pump with the left hand? That seems an awkward way to pump. It'd be great if it was a semiauto bullpup 12GA shotgun.

Yes, it's a pump. No, it's not awkward at all. In fact, it is quite comfortable. I've only done it when I dry fired it. I'll let you know more when I take it to the range. It looks like a wet weekend so I may have to wait until next weekend to shoot it.

I brought it to the range a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome! I can't believe how good it felt. The sights aren't great but who cares. It's a shotgun!

You should've seen the everyone's faces when I pulled it out. :what:

That sounded bad. When I pulled out my Mossberg Bullpup. Priceless!

It's a keeper.

That's a great deal; the last one I saw at a gun show, they were asking $500 for it, and it wasn't in very good shape.

Back in the 70's I believe High Standard offered a semiauto bullpup shotgun. But as I recall, it wasn't as relieble as it needed to be. Anyone remember it?

I saw pictures of the HS bullpup, loved the looks. Can't remember the name. Edit- HS-10. Listed as having "marginal" reliabilty, and limited 4 round magazine. Would love to see this reborn with a more reliable system, like the Rem 1100.

** That's NOT rust!! :what: - - it's just a 40-watt overhead bulb relected in the oil **

So far mine has had - -
Two magazine tubes welded together to form an extened mag.
The top carry handle / rear sight removed.
The shoulder yoke has been fixed in place so it won't rotate.
And of course, the EoTech :)
A future addition will be a muzzlebrake to replace the folding front sight which I hope will protect the mag tube a bit more.

I purchased it in Aridzona where it had been sold to a gunshop as part of an estate sale. I couldn't resist picking it up as I'd wanted one since ForEver (saw it in a Dick Tracy cartoon). So far it's been reliable, but you absolutely cannot use light or low brass loads in it.

The Mossberg 500 bullpup, like the High Sandard Model 10 were ahead of their times :(. I can only hope some company in the USA picks up the Neostead and produces it.

I'd buy one of either if I came across it.

I'll just keep my eyes peeled now....
