Speed of new server

Some of the mods are having terrible response time from the server, but I'm seeing things work fairly quickly.

I wanted to get more opinions so we can see how things stand. In comparison to the old server, how would you say things are here with regard to speed?

It seems about the same as the old server was, say a year ago? I noticed the old server had been getting slower lately, though. This is an improvement over that. But I voted "about the same" to refer to how THR used to run.

Old server would frequently take a few minutes to post replies. Every three or four pages, it would take 30 or more seconds to load.

After the downtime, everything has loaded pretty much instantly.

Some slowness, apparently load dependent, but faster overall.

You might want to time the moderators who are experiencing slowness. Geritol might help.

Seems about as fast maybe a little faster to me as a few weeks ago. However, I will say this, it seems very consistent and stable. When I request a page, there is a slight delay but the page then pops in complete. Before the move, it seemed to creep in little by little.

Don't know if thats helpful or not.

ETA: posted this message REALLY fast!. Edit too!

It's off and on like before for me. I just had another post take over 2 minutes to come back after clicking "quick reply".

Reading is about the same, but posting is still awfully slow most of the time.

I'm on dialup -- how would I know?

It feels about the same to me and no that's not particularly fast. That said, I'm here as opposed to elsewhere.

In my case the new server is MUCH slower than the old one.

I voted "about the same", which is "fairly slow". Certainly the slowest among these forums: 1911fourm, TFL, GT, Calguns, 1911.org, at least during the busy evening hours.

It seems faster to me.

<sigh>

Of course, I had to take the server down for 2 hours and then tell people searches are finally working on the same evening I post this poll. ;)

It's about the same to me, but then again it was never slow for me, except on rare occasions.

Maybe a poll posted a week after all tweaks?

Edit: this post was instant. 2 sec to see it in the thread. Fastest I've seen in a long time. Still give it a week.
the first edit went lost in space. Updated but took me to a white screen.

I'm still getting a 5-10 second lag when opening anything (i.e. sub-forums, threads, next page, etc.)

Dialup 28.8 K. (The fastest they'll guarantee, hence the fastest I get.)

Slower to load a page now.

After an edit, I don't get kicked back to the "live" page, but the edit screen just sits there. On clicking to "advanced," in this situation, and clicking "save changes" from there, it sometimes tells me that the post is identical to one I just posted, wait X minutes. On manually reloading the page, the edits I made are actually there, despite not getting kicked back to the "live" page.

(I just confirmed the above. It sounds similar to a problem another poster above is having when he refers to a white screen and an edit getting lost in limbo,)

Also (minor) the quick reply screen is only about half the width of the previous one.

I noticed a huge difference. Normally it's one-two count before a page loads, and now it loads right up.

Still getting a lag when posting. I can't see any noticeable speed difference.

Generally better for retreival but lag time when posting.

Exactly what he said.

Edited to add: Except this time it went straight on through in a snap. I have FiOS at home, even when it's slow it's fast.

I voted "about the same" but upon further reflection I think it's a bit faster.

Server contact and the initiation of page load is a fraction of a second faster; posting a response is significantly faster.

Whoever said "about as fast as it was a year ago" is right on the dot, I think.

I should note that I am having some problems initiating the connection from time to time (ie, time out), though that very well might be due to my ISP (which is horrid).

speaking of searches..... I typed in "Model 15-3" more than once and it "timed out" every time.... other than that all things seem about the same

It seems quite a bit more responsive to me.
