I have this Mossberg 590A1 and being that barrel is easily changeable, I'm wondering if I can use 18" barrel made for M590?

If its the 20" 590A1, no. You can swap on a lighter bbl from a non-A1 model though. You could add an 18.5" bbl, but you'd have to change the mag tube as well.

I think the only 18.5" 590s were the A1s with metal safety and trigger guard, aimed for LE sales. I didnt see them on the website last time I looked. The bbl and mag tube were specific to this model.

Yes, mine is the 20" 590A1 with metal safety and trigger guard. Now that I think about it, the mag tube has to be changed since it's also 20" long just like the barrel.

The reason I'm asking is that supposedly 500/590 have lighter barrel on it, and it'd be nice if I can swap on a lighter barrel if I wanted to.

You might want to give Havlin Sales a call. They look like they have the lighter 20" 590 barrels with a front rifle sight and a screw in choke. Here is a link to their site. Check the "Tactical Accessories" section:
