I want to start this thread for all those who are hunting in extreme conditions and very low temperatures.
I am hunting in Europe and i am hunting with many shotguns, i believe that each condition wants the right shotgun. What is your experience in shooting-hunting with low temperatures? Does your shotgun is the right for a -20 temperature? Is your barrel the right for these conditions? What do you suggest in these conditions?

I think the coldest I've shot at was around -10C but I can't see to many issues at -20 although some gun oils can be affected by the cold.....
Gloves would be my suggestion for - 20C :D

Coming in from the cold into a warm building will definately create lots of moisture inside your gun so if you plan on hunting for a few days and you are staying at a cabin either leave the guns in the cold or warm them up slowly by putting them in a cooler area and gradually bringing them near a heat source and then warming till the metal is warm to the touch....

My azz in the house by a fire at -20. I'm a fair weather hunter, I call it quits around 0 degrees. http://www.thehighroad.org/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The only thing I'd be hunting at -20 is a warm fire!

But, if you just have to do it, there would be nothing any different about the shotgun, barrel & ammo used then at any other temperature.

Ammo:
Velocity would be reduced somewhat, but not enough to matter.

Shotgun:
Guns should be de-greased and lubricated with Dry-Film lube or graphite to prevent misfires due to congealed oil.

If camping, leave the gun outside rather then bringing it into a warmer tent or cabin.

Condensation, frost & ice problems will not happen unless there is a sudden change in temperature.

i'm with the degrease and graphite, the high stress areas.
the ou's,singles, side by sides should have no problems. pumps operate well if not over lubed, i have no experience with autos at those temps.
leave the gun out side if your going to come back out shortly, then you won't have the condensation problem. leave the case out side when you come in to stay case the gun then bring inside, if it condenses it will do it on the outside of the case after the cased gun reaches room temp then take it out and check for any moisture that could have formed on the surfaces of the gun. reverse the procedure when you take a warm gun out into the cold ,leave it in the case until it reaches ambient temp.
