Soft Internal Parts

I have seen loads of post in this and other forums about soft parts in the italian clones.

Always thought that it was much ado over nothing.

Apparently I have been lucky for last week I finally found out what you all are referring to.

Pick up an 1860 for cheap and tore it down to polish it a bit. Reassembled and some dryfiring to check the action. (I keep a leather pad between the hammer arch and the frame so the hammer nose does NOT touch the nipples)

Anyway, after a bit I notice a couple of rough spots and they seem to be getting worse.

Tear it down and the trigger is peened over at the top and the sear notches are about as bad!

I know how to harden with casenite but are hardened parts available?

If so, from where? Suggestions are welcome.

This is honestly the first time I have had this happen and I've been in the game since the mid 60s.

Time for a rebuild!

Thats intresting, just this week I tried to file down the rear sight notch on my pietta 1860 like I have on all my uberti's to correct poi. After filing like hell for 20 minutes I saw I hadnt even scratched it! I concluded Pietta uses extremly hard steel in their hammers.
