I think I'm going to swap out my main spring housing thingy. I don't particularly like the one I have. It looks like 20 lpi checkering. I want something different. Also going to swap out my grip safety. Its a bit too yellow, doesn't match. So who do you recommend for that ultimate in blingicallity and quality? Ed Brown? Chip McCormick? Wilson? Others?

What gun are you starting with? That will influence what you should get (especially the grip safety).

What don't you like about your current mainspring housing? Is 20 LPI too rough? There are alot of choices here... smooth, serrated, 30 LPI, even scalloped and "wave"-ed.

When in doubt, get Ed Brown parts.

The starting point is my Dan Wesson pointman. I don't like the look of the 20 lpi and the feel doesn't do anything at all for me.

Does it shoot good? Does it function properly? You get the idea. If it isn't broken don't fix it.

I fix things that aren't broke all the time. :)

I went with Smith and Alxander for my magazine well/mainspring housing. 1911tuner confirmed that Wilson's bulletproof and Ed Brown's stuff is good.

You'll have to get a grip safety to match what ever your frame is cut to accept or have a GS cut the frame (if possible).

Smith & Alexander mainspring housings are pricey, but absolutely
top quality. Available serrated or checkered...arched or flat,
with or without lanyard loop. I would imagine that they would supply
a smooth one on special order. These are very good.

Wilson and Brown are also good for a little less money. I'm pretty
sure that McCormick's are synthetic, which are fine if you're happy
with the material. I've never had one to fail on any of my Colts before
they were replaced with steel housings...(Not out of necessity. I
just prefer a steel MSH)...and they are in my spare parts drawer for
those "Just In Case" situations.

Why fix somethin' that ain't broke? Why spend twice what a perfectly
serviceable pistol costs to make it unique? Well, because shooters know
what they want, and are willing to do what it takes to make their guns
fit their tastes and requirements...and because we can!;)

Cheers!

All the manufacturers you mentioned make decent parts, just depends on what you want (style, price, function) I've had parts installed from Wilson, Ed Brown, Cylinder & Slide, Briley, STI to name a few...
