Learn me on cheap shotguns!

I saw a New England NP1-P18 (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/37_350/products_id/16597) at Dick's. I had never heard of them, but the barrel was stamped with H&R.

It felt and moved like a Mossberg 500, only with a sturdier stock. It was heavy as hell, and had a rough, but utilitarian and attractive matte finish. The internet has not shown me much with regards to user-based information. Tell me what you know about this cheap shotgun.

The salesdroid said it was a copy of the 870. Of course he also said that I wouldn't have to aim if I used it for home defense, so his opinion isn't worth much.

Any experience? Is it really a cheap 870 knockoff? And if it is cheap, is it cheap as in build quality or in price? Brands seem to count for way too much of the price of some firearms, and everyone has their fanboyish tendencies. I am just looking for some information.

Do a search (via the search function on this site) on "Pardner Pump" or "Pardner Protector" to see the various opinions on these guns. It is indeed a Chinese copy of an 870. Some say they don't want anything Chinese, some say just get an older (i.e. better quality) 870, some say just pony up the extra for a new 870, and some say these guns are the greatest deal going. Have fun!
