Do you think Colt could sell these if they made them? I switched slides, thumb safeties, and slide stops on two of my commanders.

I seem to recall Colt doing a run of SS frame/blued slide commanders once upon a time. I always thought that was a good look.

1) I think they are nice as hell...but Im strange :what:
2) The dyed in the whole 1911 Colt guys will have Massive Cardiac Arrest over them.........could be funny.

They look good to me. Asthetically, I really like the blue slide and white frame.

I'm pretty sure Colt offered factory two-tones in 38 super.

I like the blue steel slide on the stainless frame.

"Asthetically, I really like the blue slide and white frame."

Amen!
To me, that says "Custom". I love that look. I hate that White Top - Black Lower two tone look. To me, that says "Glock with a stainless aftermarket slide".

I think it's a great idea. Colt should make some more Pythons and 70's anyway. I wanna get a commander, but too much money...

I have never been a two-toned gun guy, but that picture has set my opposition to two-toned in stone. Glad you like it though, enjoy. Eh.

I always loved the two tone look of the classic Colt Combat Elites. Then companies like H&K, Kimber, and SIG started coming out with stainless slide over blue/black frames. Its odd to me when so many people today think of blued slide over stainless frame as "reverse 2 tone"

looks cool...

what I wanna know is will a Commander-style round hammer work well with a beavertail grip safety like you got there....

Yea Kaylee, it works fine. Definitely some different opinions here regarding two tone guns heh..........

My Kimber has a black frame and a S/S slide. Last week at the range I shot a one-hole 8 rnd group about the size of a quarter at 20 yards. I couldn't care less if my Kimber was lime green and purple. It shoots better than any gun I've ever owned. If somebody doesn't like the looks of my two-tone toy, don't look. My $0.02 worth.:neener:

I also am partial to the two-tone dark slide/light frame, next on my list is the all one color as long as it's not stainless.

Pretty! I like both of them. I also hate you. No, really. With a burning passion. I want one, you have two. Damn you! ;) :D :D :D

Pull the slide out of battery a quarter-inch (.250) and make sure that there's a little clearance between the top of the barrel and the
underside of the slide. .012 minimum... and .015 is better, and I like
to see .018 to .020 inch. Don't push on the barrel hood to get the
clearance...The barrel should fall.

If that's okay, field-strip the guns and lay the barrel in the frame.
Put the slide stop in with the arm hanging vertical. Push down and
back on the barrel, and hold it there. The slide stop should swing freely,
or show just a tiny bit of binding at most. If the pin is in a bind,
don't shoot it.

If either one fails either of these timing tests, don't shoot them.

Cheers!

Thanks 1911Tuner, I'll give that a try and see what happens. I did this same thing to a couple of NRM gov'ts a while back and they shot fine, but I'll definitely do the test you recommended.

I just performed your test and both guns performed just fine. Thanks again for the information and concern....................

where you get the silver from holster wear as opposed to switching slides.

Mighty welcome rblack.

The ones that don't pass the tests usually do hand-cycle and shoot
fine, and the damage doesn't show up for a while. I can send you
more information on it if you'd like. It's a link that I stumbled across
it a while back and saved it. It's a bunch faster and easier than
trying to type it all up from my failing memory.

Andrew, those are character marks, and they do give a pistol a certain
"charisma". Uh...Wanna sell that Commander?;)

Cheers all!

I think the one with stainless frame and blue slide looks fine...the other is okay, but not my preference.

The Combat Elite I think was actually the first two-tone semi-auto, and they are one of the most sought after Series 80 guns, especially if in original condition.

Thanks 1911Tuner, that would be great. You can never have too much information, (at least for the 1911).

lunde, Those are nice looking Sigs, I assume you swapped slides.

There's a couple of hours' worth of reading here. The timing page is
about halfway down. I stumbled onto this page a month or so ago
during a long and sleepless night...:D

My pet carry gun is a Lightweight Commander. I traded slides with a buddy who had had a Browning cut done at the front; it also had the nose and bushing rounded off. S&W sights.

In 1981, a gunsmith buddy of mine wanted a project. He'd just gotten an electroless nickel rig.

Oven cleaner removed the anodizing from the frame. After dehorning the frame and bevelling the magazine well, we used a double-strength solution and double the normal time for the electroless nickel process on it.

Then, a super trigger job. It doesn't follow, but breaks cleanly at just over three pounds. It feeds most any ammo you want to use.

Blue on top, silver below.

Very light, very reliable.

I'd take you up on that offer, except for two things.

1. it's my dad's ccw piece, and Dad is not someone who's ccw piece you can sell and walk away from the transaction.

2. when dad retires it, it'll be mine. after a bazliion rounds through it and no parts replacements, it's not looking like i'll ever have that on my ccw, though.
