I just came across a commercial Bulgarian Arsenal Markarov in 9x18 at a local pawn shop. It looked it be in excellent condition and was priced at $195. What the going rate for these? I'm having a hard time finding any information about them.

Grab it. That's a good price for one of these. I picked up mine for 150.00 two years ago. It's rock solid, 100% reliable and will NOT let you down. I occasionally use mine for Concealed Carry on an Uncle Mike's OWB holster Size 0. It conceals pretty well for a pistol of its size.
Go to www.makarov.com for the lowdown on the Bulgarian Makarovs. I can't recommend them enough.

Squared trigger guard?

I believe it had a squared trigger guard and it was the plain jane version, not a Miltex.

Buy it. Buy it as soon as the pawn shop opens tomorrow morning.

I'd probably get it especially if a miltex as they are somewhat uncommon though I don't like the way they look. A commecial Arsenal Makarov was the best one I ever owned out of many I do and have owned.

Mine finally wore out after thousands of rounds.
Sold it for $150, paid $139 for it new just six years ago.
Wish I had purchased the entire dozen I saw sitting in their packing crate grease that day.
Then there was the new MAS rifle I passed on for $180, oh crud now I'm depressed

Yes, buy it.
I didn't see any Maks under $300 at the gun show last week.

Newton, you wore out a Mak? C'mon now.:p

I have one and it shoots better than the Bulgarian military Mak that I have. I love it- but then I love Maks. Buy it or tell me whre it is located.

Buy it NOW. I have one of the commercial Arsenal's chambered in 380 that I bought NIB years ago for about that price. Not a Miltex but it has some of the Miltex features..such as the squared trigger guard. Very smooth and accurate shooter.

Yes buy it! The makarov is one of the most reliable pistols ever made, accurate as hell too.

It was my own fault, about a million dry fires. I wore out the hole in the frame that the hammer pin sits in. Had it repaired once successfully and once unsuccessfully. Then one of the feed "prongs" on the slide broke off, and then the slide release snapped off.
At that point I figured it was time to unload it. It still fed and fired just fine however, but I've never had another gun fall apart like that with the exception of a Beretta Tomcat.

Yes, $195 is a good price. These little gems have become scarce and more expensive in the last couple of years. I got mine for $120 and it is one of the best pistols I have. I carry it regularly in the summer with 95gr. hollow points. Great design, only 27 parts. More Accurate than me. I'm currently on the look out for bigger sights (that would be my only change). I even own a Mak BB pistol.
