It is a blast to shoot and the dust cover/ bolt assembly is kind of a cool idea.

I bought one for a friend about 10 years ago for $125 it came with a bayonet and scabbard.

I haven't seen many lately.

About 10 years ago now I came up with a homemade pintle mount for mounting my Hakim UPSIDE DOWN on the roll bar of my jeep! I bought a couple 30 round magazines and would terrorize the 125 miles of private roads on a friends ranch. I had one of those hand crank trigger ticklers mounted and could blast thru 30 rounds of Turkish ball right quick. We quit drinking about 7 years ago so my home made 'Bren gun" is back on the wall with a bayonet attached!:D :D :D

It's a strange rifle I know that much.:D

But seriously. I have an uncle that has this very same gun in question. It's a pretty good shooter. Beware of some of that 8mm ammo out there.:barf:

You're lucky your gun survived. The Turk 8mm, along with some other varieties, are WAY too hot for the Hakim and broken extractors are commonplace (try to find an extractor!).

Great gun, but you have be careful about what you run through them or you'll bust it.

Had the same problem.

Ripped the rims right off the cases.

Unfortunately back them we did not have the internet to help us in such matters.

The FN49 can handle the Turk ammo since it has an ajustable gas regulator. I believe the Hakim does also, a triangle shaped stud located in the middle of the top handguard. I would highly suggest you use it to ajust how far your empties are ejected (10-15 feet) otherwise I'd steer clear of any Turk ammo because you are putting a great deal of strain on the Hakim and accelerating the wear and tear. More than a few surplus ammo dealers warn not to use Turk ammo in semi-autos!

Pull the Turk ammo down it is fine for anything then. Anyhow I do not like to get beat up with heavy recoil.
I load the compointants in boxer cases (cheaper than buying them new) throw away the crossive primmers.

When working up an accurate handload for my 6.5x55 Swedish AG-42B Ljungman (papa to the Hakim) I ran into the same problem. Either mess with the gas regulator adjustment, or tailor my handloads. I went with adjusting my handloads, for now. See the strong family resemblance to the Hakim?

Gewehr98-ya seem to have handloaded for several odd rifles, that i have had sitting around for some time. Have one of the AG-42B's, hasn't been shot since bought it almost 4 years ago. :uhoh: Was at local gunshow, bought it cause it looked interesting (6.5 x 55 semi), and fit into impulse purchase range. It is still greased up from importation.

What kinda loads are ya using? Haven't even bought brass for it yet, but did buy some Igman factory loads to try. The Igman loads work descent in a bolt, haven't tried them in AG-42B yet. What kind of brass are ya using? The imported 6.5x55 brass seems kinda spendy, is it worth it for the semi? Gonna have to invest in some brass.

Thanks

:what: I, too, have an AG42-B sitting in the 'box' that was purchased about 5 years ago and haven't fired it yet...along with a 1901 M96 all-matching #'s bolt-action.
Should I just go to the fun show and buy some S&B Swede ammo and try them out? I guess so!

And the Sellier & Bellot fodder is some good stuff, it's got thicker brass.

I wouldn't recommend any of the PMC 6.5x55, I had a bunch of it, way overpressure, it flattened primers in both my buddy's M96 Swede and mine. :what:

Remington sells a 140gr Core-Lokt 6.5mm bullet, it has two cannelures, that for some odd reason shoots MOA or better in my AG-42B Ljungman. My powder of choice is Accurate Arms XMR-4350. (Using Remington brass)

Thanks, 98.

I'm not a handloader yet, so I'll try the S&B and Remington offerings.
Can't wait.
The 96 might see use by me for the annual military bolt-action match at the range this year. It'll be my FIRST time doing anything like that. I'd better get busy putting on the higher front sight post and get that ammo for sighting in, huh? :)

So, you can find them in 6.5x55?

Oh yeah, the name reminds me of a limerick:

There once was a man from Hakim
("A light humorous, nonsensical, or bawdy verse"- actually usually bawdy. Not The High Road.- js)

Which is known as the Swedish AG-42B Ljungman. The Swedes helped the Egyptians design and tool up to build the 8mm Hakim, based on the 6.5x55 Ljungman. The 7.62x39 Rashid is another Egyptian rifle also based on the Ljungman, albeit in a smaller package. ;)

I have the "baby Hakim" the Rasheed, its the best built 7.62X39 I've ever seen and only 7000 were ever made!
