I was looking at Goex powders on Track of the Wolf. Anyone know the difference between the cartridge, cowboy, and FF? I know the cartridge and cowboy have glazed granules but what is the difference between them. What are the advantages of glazed granuals over regulay BP. I was thinking about making a BP order in the next few months and was just trying to figure out what all I wanted to get.
Thanks

I can only tell you about the Goex sizes I have used.
FFFFg (4F) is a very fine grain like white store bought sugar in size and is used as priming powder in flintlocks, and might be used in very small pocket guns in .36 cal or less.
FFFg is a larger grain size than white sugar, and is commonly used in .36 cal to .45 cal sixguns for both hunting and punching paper. It works well on long guns in .45 cal and under. i use this in rifles up to 50 cal myself.
FFg is larger grains size yet, and I use this in my .75 cal Brown Bess and my .62 cal Nor' West Gun.
If I had a .54, .58, and larger rifle I would use this in them too.
I have never used the powders you mention, nor any I haven't mentioned.

I don't have an answer for the cartridge and cowboy grades...actually I'm looking for those myself. But this table specifies the differences in some of the grades.
The cartridge grade seems to be a little coarser than 2f.
Besides the 45-70 and 45-60 I shoot the cartridge grade in the .54 Hawken...shoots good with it.

Thanks guys I was just seeing if anyone knew before I went and called them. I am thinking about putting an order in and figured I would get some for some cartridge reloading. Mainly 45/70, 38/357, maybe some 32-20.
