Cast bullets in a Remington 1858?

Looking around, it appears that cast .45 caliber bullets are actually cheaper than their round counterparts. Can the same 200gr. pills used for cartridge ammunition be used in an 1858 with a fast twist, such as the Uberti? I don't mean with a conversion cylinder, but rather loading old-world-style, with the lever. Cap 'n' ball, but with a bullet instead of a ball.

Beagle, all I've shot out of my Uberti '58 so far is 200gr. conicals that I cast myself with a Lee mold.

(These are some of the first ones I cast. They didn't come out well and were thrown back in the pot.)

They shoot just fine for me, though I haven't gotten around to comparing them to ball yet.

You can pick up a mold from Cabela's, BTW.

Jamie-

Is that a harder alloy, or pure soft lead?

Pure soft lead. It was originally a weight from the back of a fork lift my dad found in a junk yard. The forklift had several foot-square cubes of the stuff in the ass end of it as a counter weight. Dad cut 'em up into 2 inch slices with a chainsaw. I have 40 or 50 pounds of the stuff, and that's only one slice, and a coffee can full of the chips/shavings.
