Does that rust inhibator work? If so what is the best way to use it for a rifle? I see that there is a plug to put in shotguns, but what about rifles?:banghead:

Rust is something you're constantly going to have to deal with if your putting your guns in damp environments. I wouldn't count on any rust inhibitor to work. Keep your guns in a dry place (there aren't any excuses) and if you take your guns hunting or shooting in the rain, clean them when you get home and then take them out a week later and clean them again.

I feel your pain.. :D

Over the last few years my body chemistry has changed and rust is now a concern. I find that automobile paste wax helps bunches.

Al, I worked with a fellow who had a serious problems with oils in his skin, he picked up a blued steel part dipped in preservative oil - perfect rust fingureprints in less than 12 ours !! I think that there are soaps that help that problem. Rust inhibitor plugs or paper usually contain nitrates as the active ingredient, they do help. But it may take more than one thing ; dehumidifier, rust prevrntative oil or grease. Condensation is the worst problem. DO NOT store guns in in foam cases . I explained about the foam cases to one friend ; he said what do you mean ? ,I said open the case . The gun had come from a cool basement and taken in the case to a hot very humid outside , the gun was completely covered with condensate !!

I have used Birchwood's Sheath for years and does a fine job, but a friend got me to use a product called CorrosionX. It's a micro-lubricant, penetrant and rust and corrosion preventative. Been using it for 3 years now and it great, a little pricey but IMO its worth it.

I think those shotgun plug rust inhibitors are a real good idea. They last a year and if you hang a 12 gauge plug in your safe, the chemical in them just kind of drifts around until it gets to metal.Cant hurt for $5
