This email came out from the NRA yesterday:

Badger State “Castle Doctrine” Bill Needs Your Help!

Please Contact the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, and Housing Today!

As we have reported, Wisconsin’s “Castle Doctrine” legislation (Assembly Bill 35) is currently stalled in the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, and Housing.

AB35 would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their homes. It is clearly stated that there is no “duty to retreat” from an attacker, allowing law-abiding citizens to stand their ground to protect themselves and their family. AB35 also protects individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used.

State Senator Lena Taylor (D-4), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, and Housing, is choosing politics over your right to self-defense and is refusing to have the bill heard before the committee. Please contact the members of the committee, especially Chairwoman Taylor, and respectfully urge that AB35 be given a fair up or down vote.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Senator Taylor. I also sent the same letter to each of the other Senators who serve on the committee.

Dear Senator Taylor,

I am writing to request that Assembly Bill 35 to be heard before the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, and Housing. While I understand that the Committee is very busy, and has many bills before it, it is important that Assembly Bill 35 be heard before the Committee so the good people of Wisconsin have the assurances they need to legally defend themselves.

Assembly Bill 35, if passed into law, would give homeowners and other upstanding citizens a solid defense if they are sued for defending themselves against a criminal who has entered their home. Our courts are intimidating places for most people, and good people should never have to think twice about defending themselves, or their families, because they fear a lawsuit. Please urge the Committee to hear Assembly Bill 35.

Thanks,

Any help from The High Road in the form of letters to these Senators is much appreciated!

Very good concise letter. Good luck with the bill!

Our West Virginia legislature came through for us this year. After several years of trying, our Castle bill is now on the Governor's desk and will be signed in all probability.

Hunh?

Oh. Wait. Wisconsin. Heck, there's probably a special committee on diary cattle, sexually transmitted diseases, and air traffic.

I live in Wisconsin, and the only way we are going to get a chance to obtain CCW licenses and castle protection is to get seriously involved.

Our governor, Jom Doyle, is against any legislation that strengthens this type of position. To many people, real protection will only come about when he is voted out of office. Despite the fact that more and more legislators agree with gun rights, Doyle stands firm and vetoes.

He has to hear from people in his home state.

I think he is so entrenched in ideology he will not be moved until tossed out of office.

I'd even be willing to buy his wife a sandwich if he voted for CCW licensing.

You don't know everybody. Here's to hoping Brett Farve decides to use his off time to run for against Doyle...
