Broke my CZ-82

My mother got a new Bersa pistol yesterday, and we all decided to go out pistol shooting to celebrate. I took my CZ as usual. After my first magazine, my trigger guard was hanging in mid air. Couldn't get it to stay in the up position. Took it apart and this was what I found:

A piece of the trigger guard snapped off right at the top where it locks into the frame. Is my gun relegated to the status of "parts gun" now, or does anyone know where I can get a trigger guard from? Will the ugly square one from the CZ-83 work?

Wow, first time I've seen that. You should be able to get it fixed though.

That's a first for me. I've never experienced it, nor have I heard about similar complaints.

While it's unfortunate in your personal case that your pistol broke, take comfort in the fact that if a new piece is fitted and installed correctly, it will undoubtedly be a permanent repair.

Hopefully a trigger guard for a CZ83 will fit fine, ordered from CZUSA. Let us know how it turns out. The CZ 82 is proving to have some weak areas. So far I've read of;

this part failing,
the slide lock spring failing,
slide lock lever breaking,
sights falling out,
wood grips break easily,
sears wear,
worn out hammers,
mag release catch failing.

These are indeed neat little guns, but the reputation they have, IMHO, is only partly deserved. The price is really the only major redeeming virtue.

-slide lock lever breaking
Not sure why but I've heard of this a few times. I "slingshot" my guns but who knows.

-sears wear
Definitely heard of this, but with the age and (often less than gentle) use of some of these guns it's no wonder. I think it's just very important to blow the sear area out with compressed air once in a while and keep it lightly lubed.

-mag release catch failing.
The mag release is (IMHO) about nine times too complicated with that stupid multi-part catch and the way the release button works. That in particular is, I feel, a shortcoming of the design.

Still love my '83 :)

+1

I can carry it anywhere. It functions. You can find ammo. My wife can pick it up and just pull the trigger.

Is it possible that the breakage documented here is from pistols worn out before they were rotated out? My CZ 83 is new.

Never heard of a problem on the CZ82's.

The vz-82 and CZ 83 in 9x18M are 100% compatible. The CZ 83 in .380 ACP may be as well.

If by that you mean all of the parts are interchangeable, they are not!

I remember reading on another board that CZ-USA was able to provide some parts for a member's CZ-82; giving them a call might be worth the effort.

Get a trigger guard for a CZ-83 from CZ-USA.

Another thing you might try is calling Century Arms Intl. or SOG (Southern Ohio Gun) and asking them if they have a trigger guard for a CZ-82.

I had the same thing happen. The CZ forum assures me that an 83 will fit it. I have three and the other two are getting more use now that the third is down. It won't be for long.

I was referring to the triggerguards only.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. As well as posting here, I emailed Mike at CZ-USA, he replied back saying that a CZ-83 trigger guard will work. He also said that that failure could be caused by a weak recoil spring, so I plan on replacing that too.
