Wow! Beautiful! Can I ask how much (fully knowing that if you have to ask 'how much' you cant afford it!)? :D
What is the recoil like compared to a 12 gauge (which is the heaviest hitting gun I've fired so far)?

Slh02,
As far as recoil goes. Well campared to a hot loaded light weight 12 ga double..... Probably pretty close. Of course this gun weighs 11lbs so if it was as light as your 12ga it'd knock the s*** out of you. I think it recoils just a bit more than my 9lb .458Lott. maybe not more just a little different it pushes more and the lott snaps more. If that makes any sense.
As far as price goes well........... I'll just say this if you were to buy one today off the shelf at say cabelas at full retail. I saw one listed in their gun room last week for $11,000.
If you order one from Butch himself it's a bit cheaper than that but it takes 6-8 months to get it.
He has raised his prices in the last several months but here is the his web sight. It'll tell you all you need to know.

Of course this is a smoking deal as far as double rifles are concerned there is no limit to the amount of money you can spend on a best quality British double.;)
I just keep telling myself that and my wife too.....

Boing,
It was touch and go there for a while when the wife discovered the real reason that I sold the 4 wheeler three rifles one shotgun and have been working over time for the last 6 months.;)
So I've been forced to agree to the "last gun" clause once more untill this thing cools off a bit.

1973,
The secret isn't the pillow size it's having no teeth..............................
And I guess that can be interpreted in several different ways..

You don't look like the guy on TV that did the commercial whom kept pulling teeth for barter until he bartered for something to eat -and couldn't.
Maybe you didn't learn to pass that one tooth around all to your buds so the tooth fairy would come...mom's get smart to that trick...after the third time, that same tooth shows up. ;)
So...how does it shoot? Does the missus get to shoot it? One thing for sure, easy to find a cartridge in pocket, easy to find dropped brass. FRont bead only? Bbl length?

Always remember that there are more women in the world than really good rifles. I still miss all the good rifles I've let get away, but:D :D

1973,
the Bbls are 24" and the sights are a shallow V express sight set up. It is regulated for a 500gr bullet at 2150FPS.
Swampsniper,
You speak the truth my firend more wisdom would be hard to find in ones words.

I assume those are handloaded rounds in your left hand? I've never seen factory moly-coaded .470 NE bullets before (I'm assuming that the blue coating is moly?).

Looks gorgeous, but how can it be so expensive? Especially the ammo.
Does anyone make a cheaper double barrelled rifle? It really is a an evocative design. How about an over/under barrel design too?

Fairieth; pillowth; nithe wood and pretty blue bulleths...!!! How exthiting!!!
Kidding aside, that's a great dream come true for you H&H.
You worked hard for it.
Most of us have something we'd like to have and picture ourselves with it until it is finally there in our hands. I'm glad you've realized your goal.
I hope the 'last gun' phrase is forgotten soon! Have fun with your last gun...:D
(edited: did you check out the first stainless double rifle ever built? niiiiice.)

Well, I was pretty stoked about my new (to me, anyway) Delta Elite until I opened this thread... :uhoh:
H&HHunter, you are one fortunate dude.
(Leave a map to my place under the pillow in case the gun fairy makes any return visits to your crib. :D )

St Johns,
Becuase it was designed by the british of course!!:)
About the cheapest side by side double on the market is a Kreighoff big 5 standard grade for about $7,500. They are a nice rifle but for just a bit more relativly speaking you can get a Searcy or a Chapui that is fit to you.
Yes there are some affordable over and under doubles available such as the EAA stopping rifle. But I would never own a double that uses a high pressure cartridge such as a .458 win mag. Your are just begging for extraction problems.
That is why if your going to do a double get one that fires low pressure nitro rounds or at least a rimmed cartridge.
If you really want to spend some money on a double take a look at some of the classic British rifles such as H&H, Cogswell&HArrison, or Richards. Six digits is pretty easy to do on one of these rifles. I looked at a best quality H&H .375 Flanged Nitro double the other day at a store here in Denver the owner just paid $134,000 for it.
Talk about getting a case of the palm sweats when he handed it to me. I thought for sure I was going to drop it for sure just because.:what:

One of my father's friends used a Butch Searcy double rifle to stock his cathedral of death.
I've not handled the rifle, but i hear it's grand.
I need to get me one. Does he make 4 bores?

Beautiful rifle. I'm curious, though, why you're using X bullets in it. I would think that with the relatively low velocity of the .470 they might not be completely reliable in expansion. I use Woodleigh softs and solids in my .416 Rigby with complete satisfaction, though I plan on trying the X bullets up around 2700 fps just for fun.
Best,
Joe
