Escaping Kalifornia!

Seems like everyone who leaves this state celebrates it, and I'm no different. I met a lady from Vegas last year and we got married 1/03, and she moved here to No. CA.. But, she misses her kids too much and we're now moving to Vegas in 3 weeks.

In preparation I applied for a Nevada CCW and that should be here in the next couple of weeks.

Having been in Kali all my life I still can't believe I will be able to buy a gun and take it home right then, and even buy all the weapons that are banned here. I saw the video of the Las Vegas Shooters and I can't wait to meet you guys! :D

I hope to with meet up with you Vegas shooters, and don't be afraid to holler at me if you want to go shooting! :p

Congratulations!

And although it'll feel like it at the time, you really don't need a passport to get back in the USA yet. Welcome home. :)

As a US citizen, freedom is your birthright and herritage. Now you will finally have some. It is certainly a sad commentary that you have to leave your home state to be free!

Congratulations. I'm in the process of severing my ties with the "Golden State." Moving to Idaho in the short term.

The communist Germans built a wall in 1961 to prevent their subjects to leave the state (WITH order to shoot and kill every fugitive!).

With all the Davies' and Finsteins there, it's only a matter of time...

Watch for huge purchases of barbed wire, bricks, and concrete by the government!

Nevada is a good choice for 2nd, but you have to register handguns with the sheriffs office in Clark County (Vegas and sourroundings). As far as I know, there is no single case that proofed this registration helpful.

Congrats for the wedding and move!

Congrats!

I'm outta kalifornia too. Sick of it. Funny seeing all these threads lately about people leaving. I heard just last week that since 1995 the state has lost 600,000 existing residents - but gained 4 million in immigrants - wow. I'll now be calling North Carolina my home (Charlotte). I will however miss the beauty of the state - and diving at Catalina.

Congrats! Welcome back to the land of the free, and the home of the brave!

I assume that you have gotten permission to move from Ministry of Control in Sacramento.....or do you plan on tunneling under the wall???

SaxonPig, I was lucky enough to buy my current house in Kali when prices were way down, and sold it for over double what I paid for it. We're buying a much bigger house in extreme NW Vegas and I'd say that house is 50k cheaper than what it'd be in my current neighborhood. :p

I'd love to hang around and vote for guns and against Davis, but we won't be here long enough.

I can't wait to walk into Discount Guns in Henderson (my favorite place so far) and plunk down some money and leave with a gun! :D

I spent ten years in the People's Republic of California. It's a beautiful place, and I'm sure I'll always miss the beaches—but it was packed to the rafters with illegal aliens, socialist parasites, nut cases, and more illegal aliens.

I'm much happier back in the United States, and don't doubt you will be, too.

Thanks - I need to get that right if it's gonna be my new favorite gun place! :uhoh:

We also checked out Machine Gun Kelly's, The Gun Store (where I had the CCW class), and the place on Arville with the range (American Shooter Supply?). I'd never seen full auto weapons before at all, and here you could rent them! Must be Heaven! :D

I spent ten years in the People's Republic of California.

Yea, I've been here all my life and will miss the riding my Valkyrie in the mountains the most. Put 31k miles on it in two years here, but we'll just have to "cross" back in and go riding through Yosemite and the Sierras.:)

I did 40 years in the PRK, and don't regret leaving. I miss family, friends, and mockingbirds (no real songbirds here in Salt Lake) but not enough to go back.

Even my wife is convinced!

Sad. It USED to be a decent state. :(

I moved out of the state 12 years ago. I still have relatives and good friends there, but I certainly don't miss the state at all!

I'd love to see how many businesses alone have left since Davis "handled" the energy crisis like he did. I don't know why any major business would stay here, to tell you the truth. Of course, many haven't! :uhoh:

Also, when the tax break for manufactures expires. Then the companys that make things will have no reason to stay. But why would anyone want to live where real estate prices have gone thru the roof and the state welfare is one of the highest in the country and all the cool guns are against the law. It's a no brainer for a freedom loving citizen.

As a resident of Southern Nevada, I welcome you with open arms.
I don't shoot with those guys you saw on that previous thread. I have been invited many times, but I am not into that kind of stuff, but if you ever shoot at Desert Sportsman's you might run in to me.

Hi 444! I'd like to shoot with you sometime! I don't know where Desert Sportsman's is but I've only been to 2 ranges in Vegas, both indoor. Our house is not far from Floyd Lamb State Park and the range there, although all I could see there was skeet and trap.

Viva Ras Vegas! REEHAWWW!!!

You go Skunkabilly! :D

I'm glad to hear of your escape from Kali. To those of you still there, what are you waiting for? Pack it up and move out. I did so 5 years ago and have not looked back. It is unbeliveable how nice life can be without unreal taxes, restrictive gun laws, no CCW's, gang bangers, meth users, crime, auto thefts, high insurance, high utilities, unreal car reg. fees, traffic, wall to wall houses, everything being against the law, red tape and gray out Davis! One thing about Vegas is that the crime rate and congestion is getting unreal there. If you really want to get away from the rat race type lifestyle I would look elsewhere. But I must admit, vegas is still a giant step towards the good life compaired to Kali.
Best of luck with your move, John K

Best of luck to you, Valkman!

I'm amazed by the number of ex-Californians who responded in this thread.

Oh, yes, I'm leaving, too! I'll be moving to Texas in late Decenber; house will be sold next week, with a very handsome profit

Did I mention that Texas has no State income tax? That will bive me the funds for quite a few new firearms every year...:D

4 eyed six shooter,

I agree there are better places than Vegas to go. But that's where the wife's kids and grandkids are so that's where we go! She only cares about bing around them for the next 5 or 6 years, and I'm already thinkin' about Arizona. We took a trip there on the bike last year and I really liked that state.

Ambi,

Thanks and congrats on your own exit from the PRK! No state taxes in Nev. either - I may come to like Vegas, even though I figure I'll be riding my bike and my head will explode from the heat! :fire:

There are a number of indoor ranges around town, I haven't been to one for at least 10 years.
Floyd Lamb state park only had trap as far as I know, although I enjoy the heck out of shooting trap. Just another shooting sport to spend a lot of money on.
Desert Sportsmans is a private gun club located on the way to Red Rock Canyon. As you head out Charleston you cross over the 215 and a few more miles the road makes an almost 90 degree turn at the water retention basin. On the other side of the retention basin is Desert Sportsmans. The dues are very reasonable. They shoot most of the major sports there; IDPA, IPSC, Three Gun, IPSC Manual Rifle, ISHMA, Benchrest, machine gun matches, Vintage Military Bolt Action Rifle.......... They have a rifle range that goes out to 400 yards: you could shoot further if you have your own target stand. There are some major matches held there. The Soldier of Fortune 3-Gun match was held there for years. I think there was a match sponsered by SWAT magazine or something out there within the last year. You must be an NRA member to join. If you want an application, contact me.
High Power matches are shot at the Boulder City range and at Nellis AFB. I think you can shoot High Power four days a month.
There is supposed to be a "World Class" public range at Apex (take I15 North towards Utah-basically where you can first see Las Vegas coming from Utah) but I have no idea the projected date of that project.
Those guys you read about in that previous thread shoot once a month. It is called The Desert Buffet and it is held at Slone, which is just south of Las Vegas on I15-next exit south of St. Rose Parkway. You can see a lot of picutres of those shoots on AR15.com, go to AR15 Community, then go to Hometown, then go to Nevada.
We have a gunshow at Cashman Field every couple months. There are aslo other gun shows at random, mostly antique arms shows here and there.
There is no shooting allowed outside of a designated range in the Las Vegas valley.
Las Vegas is completely Class III friendly.
CCW readily available. There are any number of places to take the class. I would go to The Gun Store on east Trop. Tony Dee teaches it. While you are there you can rent a submachine gun and give it a whirl. Tony is a great guy and is an active competitior at Desert Sportsmans. He hooked me up with an optic mount for my subgun.
My faviorite gun store is Master's Shooters Supply on Sahara. It isn't all that big, but I enjoy going there and dealing with them. They have always treated me right.

Thanks for info, 444, I appreciate it. Desert Sporstmans sounds like a great place and I'll have to check it out. I'd love to start shooting IDPA but have some disabilities with arthritis and don't know if I'll be able to - I need to watch a match and see what they have to do.

Since I'm on Long Term Disability and don't work, I'll just have to make my job checking out the gunstores while the wife works. Ah, life is tough. :D

I am getting ready to go to an IDPA match tonight. The match director made a very good, intelligent dicision.
#1 Most defensive shootings occur in low light
#2 It is hotter than the hinges of heck in Las Vegas in July and August
So, in July and August, we are having our matches starting at 2000 on Saturday night, all using flashlights.
Good call on his part if I hadn't mentioned that.

As far as I know, all of Desert Sportsman's matches are open to the public, no memebership required. Drive over there any weekend morning, and start talking to people.

back to the United States of America.

That said - don't be TOO anxious to move to AZ,
southern Texas, New Mexico etc.

Do a 'google' on ATZLAN and READ -

In a short time (relatively - a few years), those areas
are going to BE MEXICO - if not legally, then for 'all
practical purposes'.
Primary approach seem to be 'out breed the anglos'
and win with sheer numbers. (win is also a relative term)
We're REAL close now - that's why
I'm gettin' out out of here ASAP - Sorry for the lack of
PC - on second thought - NO I'M NOT

Valkman
August 10, 2003, 12:19 AM
I don't care about being PC, and I appreciate the advice. ;)

Since you guys are so helpful, how about helping to pack boxes? I'm too busy on the computer to help, and the wife is getting tired! :D
